    Name that noise!

My 1982 Accord LX has a strange whistling / whine that I'm hoping you can identify. Video posted here https://youtu.be/NgS0-BsuXys.
    Thanks!

Well, the valves need adjusting, but you're likely wondering about that scraping noise. It's a bearing going bad. Probably in the alternator or possibly the water pump.

Thanks for diagnosing, Dr_Snooz. Can you tell the valves need adjusting because of the "click, click, click"? I have the factory manual and have adjusted valves on my onld VW before... any tips?

Yeah. They make a lot of noise. The Honda manual outlines the adjustment procedure. I don't remember anything about the '82s personally.

    Re: Name that noise!

I adjusted the valves (for the first time on this type of ride). Wasn't too terribly bad. I got the angled feeler gauges which I think made it a little easier.
    Couple of observations and questions:

    1. The Aux valve clearences are set the same as Intake, but I found that they are "wimpier", meaning, I could shove the large feeler gauge in there and the spring on the Aux valve would spread. So setting those dialed in was a bit tough.

    2. After the adjustment, when I'm driving and take my foot off the gas, the car lulls big time (feels like its misfiring, lug lug lug). Could that be a symptom of a loose/tight Intake, Exhaust or Aux valve? Or maybe not having the engine TDC's lined up correctly? I also changed the spark plugs out during the valve adjustment... wonder if thats a factor.

    3. Be careful when adjusting valves in an 1982 Accord! Be sure you have a drawing/the book becuase the Intake/Exhaust layout can be challenging to keep track of.
