I'm replacing the valve cover gasket on my 1987 Honda Accord LX-i sedan, as the old one started leaking a month ago. It only leaks on the side facing the front of the vehicle, into a couple of the spark plug wells and onto the exhaust manifold below, making for quite a bit of smoke when the engine warms up. I already degreased and cleaned the worst of it last week, I just wipe up any other oil each day from around the gasket. The valve cover already comes off pretty easily, as I already had to remove it a few months ago when checking the condition of the timing belt.
I have the replacement gasket I ordered from RockAuto and some Permatex "Ultra Grey" RTV gasket maker. Trouble is, I can't find anywhere in the online PDF of the shop manual on where to apply the RTV, if at all? The three grommets on the valve cover are OK on my engine, so I'm not worried about those.
