    headers VS 2.5 inch exhaust?

    here is the question...

would it be almost the same to run a full 2.5 inch exhaust on the stock manifold with no cat or resonator...

or a header with a full 2 inch exhaust with no cat or res?

i know it will make a diff with the headers... but is it gonna be that huge?

It depends on how much money you're willing to spend.

headers and 2.25" piping, what's the point in reducing exhaust gas volocity with 2.5" and only 2 liter's of displacement. Only way I could maybe see 2.5" is with a wild cam and engine work where you've raised the rev limit.

I got my cat back on first, I got a mild increase. When I added my header on next I got a very noticeable increase that was worth every penny I paid for the header ($299 Dc Sports).

I have headers and a 2.25" piping all the way through. I'm glad I went with that. It gets good airflow.

    Started with a 89 Accord LXI - 96 Acura TL - 2003 Acura CL Type S..

Yeah I've noticed the more 2.5" header back piping I add... the more power I get from low to mid range. So I can only assume that when I finally do my header it will improve the top end, and whatever happens to the power down low after that doesn't concern me.

BTW this is with a wild cam... and various other mods.

i know they give a diff... i have had them for a long time... but i never ran a 2.5 inch full pipe with no resonator...

i will go with headers, no cat, no res, and 2 inch pipe back to mah muffler...

Your gona sound like a garbage truck!!

I had that set-up before (DC header, strait pipe, and a mandral bent catback with a s.s. borla mufler) it was so stinking loud, that I got annoyed and stuck a high flow cat back on to supress the noise some. I still might weld in a resonater when I get some free time.

I did notice that the test pipe gave a better power band than the stock cat or high flow cat, but the high flow cat deadened the sound enough to justify putting it on. Also the higher flow cat is pretty nice as well (with out all that loud noise).
