Yeah. Don't get your hopes up with that site. I've had them come back and pull the rug out.

Making some nice progress. I'll probably be done with the left arch this week!

This is one of the giant patches I made. It consists of 4 patches in total.

All the insides welded up. I also ground all it nice and smooth and painted it with epoxy primer.

While i was waiting for the primer to cure I started to take out the carpet. I know I had a rust hole in the floor so I needed to look into that. And I got me a nice surprise!

    Its fucked!

I was hoping i would catch a break for once but nooooo. Atleast all the other floors look good. I'll just remove the sound deadening and put some new silent coat on.

WWWEEEEELLL THEEEEENN. IT'S FUKKEN WELDEEED THEN.

Sorry, just really happy to be done with this.
I spent all day yesterday welding and griding the last bits on the arch and now it's more or less done.

I realise that is not done in this pic, but whatever

    Slowly getting there.

I tried something new for me, lead filling!
We had a bunch of lead rods laying around so i figuered I would give it a go. And it went really good!
Lead has the advantage of adhearing to the metal very good (well, if I did it correctly that is ) and not absorbing moisture like ordinary (polyerster?) filler.

Crappy photo, as usual, but you get the idea. I'll try to get some better pictures of it later

Then I got working on the floor. Man oh man it's bad. But nothing a little sheet metal and a zzzzapp with the ol' Esab cant fix

Right lads. I have a ton of pictures to show

I got the floors all primered, painted and sound insulated with Silent Coat. I have started to get all the the interior bits back in place. I just have the seats and the plasics in the boot left.

I decided that I want to drive this car before winter comes. Which means I'm not going to be replacing the right side wheel arch.
However, it looks like shite so it's getting the ol' bondo repair.

First, a small splash of epoxy primer

    ...immediately

The rear bumper was at some piont in time resprayed. And who ever did it did a crapp job. The paint has runs, crackling, faded, scratched etc. I'm lucky enough to be able to buy color matched spraycans in the town next over. It's cheap but pretty okey for the price.

I want to do this the "right way" later on. I have a spraygun I badly want to try. I really want to repaint the front bumper, the hatch, and left rear quarter panel and make the car look as good as it deserves.

And this is the finished product! It fit perfectly. I welded in two M6 bolts at each end so it fits just like the original.

I had managed to save half of the bracket. The bit that goes into the car was alright, so i separated them with the spotweld drill bit.

But when I started the car for the first time it ran really rough. It idled wierd, coughed and sputtered. The exhausts burned my eyes like hell, even tho i had all the doors open. It even puffed out black smoke when reving it. I tried driving it for a while but no change. Between 2000 and 3300 rpm it ran super rich. Above 3500 it went just as well as before.

I checked the codes on the ecu. 3 blinks "map sensor". Good! Now i know where to start. I checked it and found nothing so I tried letting it sit without the battery for a bit again. 11 blinks "yer ecu is fukked m8". All the check points in the list basicly stated "replace the ecu", sweet

My dad had mentioned the problem to a friend at the local parts store who suggested "unplug the ecu and plug it back in".
"mind aswell" I thought. I found that a few pins were pretty oxidesed. Hmmmm. I sprayed them with some contact cleaner and cleaned a ground bolt i had greased on accident, et voila. Good as new!
My God I was happy, it felt so good to drive it again

I started working on some fun things immediately. New carpets, new speakers, new taillight. I'll make another update soon about it.

Congrats on taking it for a drive and glad the fix was a simple re connection of the wiring harness. I got to say, about 90% of my car problems now are caused by loose parts because they have been taken on and off so many times or mostly bad ground wires or bad electrical connections.

I am interested if you can tell me that your car body flexes and twist less since all the rust repairs have been made.

Thanks. So am I. I'm glad this is the only electrical gremlin i've had to chase down....so far.

No. The light driving around town i do is never going to be enough to feel anything like that. + the worn out stock suspension doesnt help.
So my car is pretty rusty and i notice the body twist mostly when going slowly over big bumps diagonally or turning up a steep road. I can hear the rubber seals in the doors move. Similar rust repair is due on mine like yours, i am taking note of every spot you repair and how.
