    '86 Aerodeck EX-2.0i Restauration

This is my newly acquired 1986 Honda Accord Aerodeck. My grand father bought this car back in 2002 and drove it sparingly up until he died. In 2016 my uncle bought i to teach his kids to drive, but that didn't happen and it was left sitting for the most part. He recently retired and lost the parking spot where he had it parked so he needed to sell it. I always thought it was a cool car (mostly for the pop-up headlights) and I figured it would be cool if granddads car could stay in the family. So i bought it!

1986 Honda Accord Aerodeck EX-2.0i. A20, fuel injection, 5-speed, electric, windows, electric mirrors, electric sun roof, heated seats and non working 4wheel alb.

The plan for the car so far is:
    sercive and inspection [x]
a good polish and make the trim look good again [/]
    clean the interior [x]
fix the rust in the rear arches and right front fender [/]
fix the few dings there are []
get some yellow fog lights instead of the trashed driving lights that are on now [x]

I might get some lowering springs and other wheels but I don't know yet. It depends on what i come across

This is it. Red, aerodeck. As you can see, my username is very, very clever.

Very nice looking Aerodeck, certainly appears better than mine. My suggestions would just be removing the ugly tow hitch and cleaning up those wheels. And I agree on the unsightly driving lights needing some kind of change. Also, that antenna on the back is curious. Welcome to the forums! I'm rather new here as well.

Thanks! Yeah the tow hitch is going. I gave the wheels a scrubbing when I washed the car but that didn't do to much. I'll have to hit them with the power washer later.
The guy who had it before my grand dad put in some tech to use his cellphone in the car, the handsfree microphone is still in it. I guess the antenna is for better signal?

Yeah it suits it really well and hopefully it will look really nice when I get around to polishing it.

Time for an update. I haven't had much motivation to work on the car because I have had so much fun just driving it around. But I was repairing the broken lock button on the passenger door when I saw that the speaker was toast. That had to be dealt with, I NEED MY TUNEZ

I got two old alpine speakers from a friend for free (yay) and bought two Gas Beat speakers from an other friend. The Gas sucks but they are better than the broken originals. The Alpine are actually pretty good! I will replace the Gas speakers later during the winter aswell as put some more sound deadening in the car.

And I found a replacement rear light in very good shape for 150 sek(17 usd). Mine has a few cracks in the glass and the tabs for the bulbs are broken. Looking forward to putting this one in.

I think it's very symbolic when a car goes from older to younger generation. Such things must be kept safe, their value cannot be converted into money.
    I'm very happy for you!

    Re: '86 Aerodeck EX-2.0i

A few more weeks has passed and a few more things has been done to the Aerodeck.

As I stated in the first post I made, I wanted to get rid of those daytime running lights that were totaly trashed.
At first I wanted to get some yellow foglights alá tofu 86 but after driving at night I found myself wanting some more light output.
I searched on ebay and tradera (swedish ebay kinda) and eventually I found these

They are made by Raydyot and they fit perfectly.

And after. It looks so much better. They made a big improvement in visibility when driving at night. But I think I'll put in some hid bulbs in them to get even more light. I should change the headlight bulbs aswell, who knows how old they are.

Last weekend I was at a fleamarket. A couple of older guys who usually sell car parts and such at swap meets.
While looking around i found some wheels that will fit perfect on the car.
    They are Ronal R8 14x6 et45.

Ha, no doubt! I am sure my LXi could use some new beams because even with my superman like vision I struggle on these Oregon roads on dark nights driving between Portland and the coast.
Those wheels are going to look tight!

Things are coming along slowly. I got the wheels painted. The pictures aren't the best. I'll take better ones when I have get
some rubber on them. I did not want to use normal silver as I thought it would suit the car better with something a little darker.
The color i used was called steel grey. At first it was a little to light but after some clear coat it was perfect.
The picture lies a little, they are darker in reality.

Had some spare time while the gf was at work this weekend. So I figured I would freshen up the engine a little. This sad looking valve cover has been bothering me since I got the car.

Smashed it with the sandblaster. What little paint that was left came of really easy. Looks better already.

And the finished product. I used VHT wrinkle plus. It was the first time I painted with wrinkle paint and it was a bit tricky.
I sprayed a light tack coat fist, then 2 thicker coats with ten minutes between them. But you really have to put this stuff on thick for the
wrinkles to uhm..... wrinkle. I realized after about 20H that half the finish was still glossy . So i went in for another coat. This time I turned
up the heat in the garage to like 25c, heated the can and the valve cover and put on a T H I C C coat. And it turned out beatuful. Went for a drive to get it up to heat and let the paint cure and sanded the ridges and honda emblem. I'm super happy

Noticed that the light in the trunk are dim as a candle so I bought some led bulbs. I have put them in my other cars just because I like 'em. I did change the one in the cabin aswell but the pictures are pretty fucky....so yeah

We are starting to have some cold nights now and even had some snow last week. I'm not going to be driving this car during the winter because of all the salt and shit. I'm going to be working on fixing the rust, restoring the brakes and a few other things. Also I found that the winter tires are rock hard and made in WEST GERMANY. Needless to say I'm not going to bother putting them on.

The salt truck fucks started shooting salt all over last week so the Aerodeck went in the garage. I took of the front mud guards and found SO MUCH DANG OLE RUST. Sand and dirt had accumulated in all the pockets it could find back there, creating moisture traps wich in turn leads to rust. Just taking of the front guards resaulted in a shovel full of dirt.

Here she sits, all jacked up. Ready for some tlc

I have started repairing the front right fender. I could see that it had a small hole about 5mmx10mm but i ended up having to cut 20cm to get to solid metal.

Not my best work but it will do. It will look decent after a skim of filler. Alot of it will be covered behind the mudflap anyway.

Yeaaah those factory mud flaps trap a lot of shit in behind them... I filled the voids in the frame with spray foam and replaced the fenders. It is going to be interesting to weld on, if I ever do, but I rather not have a dirt pocket in the frame.

You might want to re-think that foam. It absorbs moisture and holds it against the metal just like dirt.

I think this is the first rust repair thread we've ever had. Very cool! Keep it up!

Well... Its not exactly ideal and it probably won't be permanent, but this is the same stuff that is supposed to keep moisture out of your house, and it is closed cell.

Yeah this is going to be a rust thread for a good couple of months. The more I dig the more i find. Even the smallest tiny hole turns into half the car being cut.

Well well well, this rust ain't gonna patch it self up, so lets keep digging.

This is in the right front wheel well. This gigantic hole is behind the airbox thing.

I like to buttweld most my panels. No real reason for it, just the way i like it. And of corse some plugwelds on the flanges
I made a hole in the panel just so I can spray some cavity wax in there. And I painted the thing inside and out.

Soooo I forgot to take a picture before I started cutting, but to summerise. A little 3x3 cm hole turned into all of this getting chopped.
Basicly it was all rusted from the back side. When I smashed it with a hammer it went straigt through.

You see I have patched up two small holes already

That means this side is more or less finished! I need to weld in one little bracket, seam seal it and put some new under coating on.

I have filmed quite a bit, like 45 minutes of crappy raw video. I was thinking i would put up some videos on youtube. But we'll see, maybe I do maybe I dont.
