    Thermo valve replacement

    Hey all, new here!

Probably a stupid question but I’m new to Honda’s. I have an 88 Accord LX that I was given, the car is lime a time capsule it’s so clean!

Okay to the point, when you start the car cold the idle shoots up to 2500 rpm, after a moment if I jab the gas pedal it will drop to 1500rpm but no lower. So I started looking at the carb and found that the choke won’t disengage unless I hold the choke plate open and tap the throttle linkage, then it idles right down to 1000rpm. So I traced all vacuum lines that where involved with the choke, when I traced vacuum line #18 past the hard line section it went back to to soft line and down to some sort of what I imagine is a 3 way valve that’s screwed into the intake or block I couldn’t quite tell. Anyhow that “valve” was snapped off the part that screws in. If anyone could tell me what that’s called so I can get a replacement and have a properly functioning choke, and what I imagine would be quite the vacuum leak fixed aswell haha I would forever in your debt!

Yikes. No way you will just find that thing, youll have to pull it off another car. I was about to offer to sell you mine but I just realized I pitched the rear half of my extra intake... I don't use that on my car, but if I take it out there will be a gaping hole.

Thanks ShiRen, after posting this last night I called a couple auto parts stores and tried to have them look up vacuum switches for the car with zero luck so I figured a wrecking yard might be my only option. Thankfully I know where a couple are. However I know one of them is a manual, will the switch be the same or do I need to get it out of another automatic?

    Thanks for the help!

Theres no difference between the auto and manual carbs. Junkyard will be your only place to get this part.

They were pretty popular on alot of cars with carbs. Im sure there is something out there you can buy that will work.

I doubt it. Either BSP or standard pipe thread.

    Re: Thermo valve replacement

Well I know forsure where a few are in wrecking yards so I’ll just grab one Saturday. But humor me here, could I reroute the vacuum hoses connected to that switch to another vacuum source or would I just be causing other problems supplying vacuum without that switch?

    Thanks everyone!

Sorry I got COVID so struggling with word retrieval

"Ported vacuum switch" is your hot search in google.

I couldnt think what PVS stood for yesterday lol.

You have to dig for one that fits the criteria you need. There should be a data sheet listed online for each sensor someplace.

Since its for your choke pull off im sure with some experimenting you could find another vacuum source that would work but it would take alot of experimenting I would think.
