    Cool Back with a 1G

Its been a long time since I have been in the game. I'm back with a 1981 Hatch. I got this car from my uncle for $500 bucks in early 2021.

I started with the usual, cleaned the inside and out. Removed all the unwanted old audio equipment. Speaker wire everywhere!

Installed a Weber carb, relocated the battery to the trunk, and did a wire tuck. Starting to get a vision on how I want the engine bay to look. As clean as possible

oh yeah and we need this car lower.

I drove the car around for the rest of the summer going to various car meets/shows. Got a lot of attention at the Good Guys car show. Could even sit down to eat some food haha

And then the head gasket blew and it was all my fault! I must have left the radiator cap slightly off and the car overheated some! From the looks of it, this car still had a very old head gasket that was rusting through. sad day but not the end of the world. At this point both the engine and tranny are out and sitting in my garage and the head is off to the shop for a rebuild.

So here we are today welding more of the engine bay until the motor is rebuilt! Looks pretty bad right now but I would like to get all the holes welded and then start to body work. I was using a Miler welder that would not go low enough and kept burning holes. gggrrr time to get a mig welder!

It feels good to be back!

Welcome back. I assume there are pictures in this post, they'll show up in a day magically.

Nice score, but bummer about the head gasket.

received a call from the head shop. The cam and rocker arms need some attention. LOL Parts ordered.

Spend some time cleaning the cabin. I though there would be more rust under the sound deadening. I will have to remove the seat mounts to get the rust under them.
