1986 Accord 4 door LX with carbs - Fuel pump Access

Hello, I need to confirm my electric fuel pump is receiving power. The fuel pump relay is receiving power and also checks out fine, so I need to determine if there is a problem with the wiring to the fuel pump or if the fuel pump is bad,

I pulled out the back seat and was disappointed to find there was not an access panel for the fuel pump. It looks like I have to drop the entire gas tank to access the fuel pump.

Is there an easier/better way to access the fuel pump?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

There's an access panel in the trunk, isn't there?

I just checked the trunk and found these two silver, round plates that measure 6 inches in diameter. They appear pressed into the body and held in with sealant. There is no obvious way to remove them, except to pry them out.

    Are these the access panels?

    Yes!

The one on the left is the fuel pump cover.

Yeah literally just pry it off with a screw driver, it's not pressed. It will probably stick right back on when you are done...

Just watch out and don't get your sleeves in the glue lol

I just downloaded both the Design and the General Shop Manual. They are **awesome**. They are 100 times better than the ALLData DIY subscription I pay for.

Thanks again so much! Greatly appreciated!

I hope im correct that the fuel pump is under the left cover, it is on FI cars I didnt see yours is a carb.

AND just a warning the edges hole in the body are razor sharp! I cut my knuckle down to the bone on one of these videos I did.

I replaced both fuel filters. The primary filter is down by the rear wheel and looked like it had never been replaced. The secondary filter (under the hood) was easy to replace.

I then replaced the fuel pump and it started up right away. It now runs like a champ again.

    Thanks for all the help!

    great news!

Not to worry you but some of those pumps run a little to much pressure and may flood your carb time to time. If its running dont sweat it, just keep it in the back of your mind if you start having carb troubles like flooding at idle.
