ECU light never comes on when starting car

What is the expected behavior of the ECU diagnostic light under the seat on an '87 Accord LXi? Mine never comes on when I turn the key to accessory or start the engine. I thought I read somewhere that its supposed to light up for like 2 seconds as a bulb/LED test. What's correct?

Did you check if it is burned out

I think the 2 second part is the ECU light on the dash board.
