1983 Accord LX Hatchback?? Rebuilding motor

    Good afternoon,

Thanks for the acceptance into your great wealth of knowledge. Located in North Idaho and just bought a 1983 Accord LX HB with a Frankenstein motor. Block is an EK1 (3631908) 1.8L (not the original block, serial number shown on tag not the same serial# stamped into the block), transmission is a GK coded 5 speed (doubt it is original), and the head is an unknown (wish I knew if serial numbers were stamped for reference, there is PB2-4 shown??). I am in the process of rebuilding from the ground up but am having issues finding a correct head gasket and intake/exhaust gasket. I just ordered a kit from RockAuto for motor gasket set, hopefully head gasket fits (APEX AFS1006), clutch kit (MU476151). If anyone has better info on head gaskets, please chime in.
I will also be removing vacuum lines and carb, swapping to a Weber eventually. I have seen numerous threads covering that one here but if anybody has any Gotchas they may want to share, please do.

Re: 1983 Accord LX Hatchback?? Rebuilding motor

Sorry I haven't updated this but times are tough. Motor is in, it turned out to be from an 80-81 Prelude. Weber carb is on, new fuel pump, etc. My issue now is that for some reason I have lost power to the fuel pump. I have power at the fuse but nothing at the pump connections. I tested the pump with alligator clips and a battery, works fine. The wire is a Black/yellow stripe at the pump (power) black (grd). Looking at the skematic (I am now expert, believe me) they show a black w/yellow st and a white w/blue st going to a fuel cut-off relay on the carb, is that where the fuel cut -off relay is? The motor will run, I just have no fuel. Any thoughts on bypassing and connecting the FP to a switch? Click image for larger version.

ID:	11398 In the picture with the big red plug, I have power at that BLK/Y wire. I also have power at the blk/y wire (pic of wires in engine bay) which is where I thought I got power for the choke (Weber single wire choke) but what would complete the circuit for the fuel cut-off relay if nothing connects the w/bl wire shown on the carb?

Have you located and tested the cutoff relay?

I have pretty much removed unplugged everything from the front of the fuse panel but have not unplugged anything from the back, just kind of hanging there. I am looking to see if I can locate another relay tucked up in there somewhere, not looking good though. According to the manual I have, the fuel shut off relay should have 2- blk/y wires, one red/y, and one black. Durned if I can find it.

I only know the 3 g but I think the 3g one is on the back of the fuse box on carb models.

I believe you are correct, at least that what the back of the fuse panel says. Well, here is what I found out today. Gotta love a multimeter. I have traced wires from the pump to the corresponding plug in points, along with some other wires. I have 3-5ohms across all wires. Coming from the pump are two wires, one blk/y stripe and a black w/brn spots. The blk/y wire plugs directly into the back of the fuse panel where I have pictured. The ground plugs into the relay that is pictured and lined in black, labeled ground. Along with the relay connections, I have a wht/blue wire (shown on pic as wht/bl st) that terminates next to the blk/y wire under the hood that I have already attached a pic for (no idea what it is). I have also tested ohms across the relay (labeled on fuse panel as fuel cut off) and am hitting around 180+Ohms across a couple of the connections which seems real high, since others are reading around 10.5ohms. I wish I knew how to test these relays while they are out.
