To prevent dieseling ive been stalling the car in first or third when i park. I imagine that isnt too healthy in the long run so where do I find the solutions for this? Thanks.

Verify that the fuel shut off solenoid in the carb is operating correctly and make sure that your accelerator pump or something isn't leaking into the carb.
Having your idle speed too high can cause that, but definitely check the fuel cutoff solenoid first.
