yep every 3,000 miles is good....
TY SIR.. wow I guess I need also..what a sham!~
3,000 miles is too often for the oils available today. The only thing that changing it that often will do any more is create more waste oil to get rid of.
But, hey, if it makes you feel better...

I'll have to go with Milke89LxI. But because i'm me and i think it extends the life of an engine i change mine every 2000 or 2500 depending on how busy i am.

I try to change my oil every 3500-4500 miles, although you really can go longer if you're not burning or leaking any without any serious damage.
My dad has not changed the oil or filter in his van since 1996 and it is currently at 172,000+ miles, about 6 months ago we noticed it was a little low and added a quart. The oil is quite dirty but there isn't much noticeable ticking and he won't change it because he doesn't really care much about it. It also has the original air filter (from 1992) and the car honestly doesn't run half bad.
That's what I call good maintenance. LOL. That reminds me of a time I was phoning around looking for a car for someone and this guy was bragging about how reliable the engine was because he has never changed the oil for 75,000 miles and it still ran good. It's like "Umm....I think I'll try the next car....".

I am not going to make any more comments about oil changes. We were all sold the 3,000 mile bill of goods by Jiffy Lube and the like. That was back when engines were different, meaning they did not have fuel injection and management systems that keep excess fuel from diluting your oil and ran at lower temperatures.
Don't believe me, but I am telling you that you do not need to change it every 3,000 miles. I have never run my oil for less than 7,000 miles since the car was new. It now has 195,000 miles on it and runs perfectly, burns no oil, and has the cleanest top end of any engine I have ever seen. This is with synthetic oil, but even conventional oils are much better now. The SAE ratings have changed about five times in the last ten years. Hell, Consumer Reports tested oils in NYC taxis and found that 6,000 miles was when the oil just began to show signs of needing to be changed (through oil analysis).
I am done now and off my soap box.
DBMaster - Well remember it all depends on the car as well, if there's a small head gasket leak the oil is going to have to be changed more frequently since it's dirty, if there's any blowby, leaks, or worn valve seals it's going to have to be changed frequently because it will be either burning it or losing it. I agree however, on a perfectly running engine you can go WAY past 3,000 miles.
Wel if your car has a head gasket leak, or a leak that requires you to add oil about once a day, then you can leave your oil in there, because the engine is always leaking and you adding good oil in.. If that makes any sense.... I think I would still change my filter though.

I am a 3k kind of guy and a new filter every time but hey what ever that is just what I do.
I think the manual for my 89 lxi says to change oil every 5,000 miles. I usually let it go a little longer, but that's just because I'm so POOR I can't afford to change my oil every 3,000 like some of you RICH people do.
One of my friend's mechanics says that he totally believes in todays synthetic oils. He says that you can go over 10,000 miles without having to change the oil, Just change the filter every 3,000 miles or so. When he does oil changes, instead of recycling the oil he saves it and reuses it in smaller engines like lawnmowers and stuff. That's just my $0.02 worth
Peace out y'all!!

doesn't that little sticker on the stock intake say that the engine oil should be changed every 7500 mile and not every 3000 miles???
are you sure , or is that 7500 miles for the air filter ! ??Originally posted by chiller670

ive got 20000 on my oil right now and i havent burned a drop or had any problems with it.
I think Honda said to change your oil every 7500 miles because they realized if you change it every 3000 like you're suppose the damn car would last forever and you wouldn't need to buy another car!!!:p![]()

Hi:
An oil change every 3,000 miles is a bit of an overkill. I'll wager that your oil is still translucent at 3,000 miles. I do think 7,500 miles is a bit too long though. I would recommend every 5,000 miles.
Certainly doesn't hurt the car to change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles.
