are you sure???? see I would think that a tranny geared for a lesser HP engine would have shorter gears. But I guess your right....maybe I can get 70 in second like my old Civic EX

LOL, I'm assuming he means 88-89 LX-i, since they had 120 hp and 122 ft. lbs torque compared to the 86-87 LX-i with 110 hp and 114 ft. lbs torque.

88-89 had a dual stage intake manifold, modified valve timing, 4-2-1 exhaust header instead of 4-1, and a compression ratio bump to 9.3:1 from 8.8:1

theres different tranny codes for almost every year of accord (talking about 3g years) differing mainly between DX/LX tranny and LX-i tranny , i think the only ones that were exactly the same we the 86 and 87 DX/LX tranny

They are a little different. The EFI tranny has a slightly higher final drive ratio (about 5% I think) than the carb tranny for a little bit better acceleration. Check the FAQs for the exact FD numbers.

I dont understand why in the Dx they have longer gears and higher compression??? Would not make more sense to have shorter gears with higher compression, so the higher horse would be useful???

umm.. i think its a fuel economy thing.. carbs suck more gas than PGM FI cars do.. so when you rev lower for a long period of time, the mileage is way better

i get 28 MPG on the HWy with my weber and lude tranny.. thats at 120 kph and 3100 rpm

I'd guess Honda made that choice because the FI cars are more perforance oriented (higher FD) and the carb cars would be more economical (lower FD).

ya the gears are looooooong.. i know.. cuz my 3rd gear.. damn that thing goes forever.. and thats when my car starts to haul serious ass...i have had it up to 145km/h in 3rd and 170in 4th and finally upto 190 in 5th..
but if you get an lx tranny..yes, you will lose low end torque and acceleration, as the Ex-i/Lx-i trannies were geared closer then the lx
