Question how much does this matter?

ok, so i have a question here....on my 88 there is (or should I say was) a manifold cover on the manifold. it seems to add heat to the air for the intake. what exactly did honda have in mind for this part, and since mine has totally rusted off, does it really matter if I replace it?

yes it matters if you replace it

my car (when it was my father's) that thing was so rusted that it was barelly hanging there so he took it off but the engine was taking a hell of a long time to heat in the winter and wasn't running good ...he changed it and now it runs and heats fine

its a heatsheild that is to protect the engine parts around the header not to help your moter warm up. I took mine off and never had a problem( I live in Toronto so cold and snowy)take it of it looks better with out it any way.

well... my 87 does just fine and didn't come with that hose thing... I just have the heat shield... I would assume that taking yours off wouldn't hurt anything

and I know I'm in california, but it does get down to the twenties in winter here.

of course for you canadians out there, that's probably not very cold.
    87 hatch (stolen)

88 lxi 4dr, 5spd, threw a rod... in process of swapping engine from my 87 hatch (police recovered what was left of the car).

the fucker that sold me the 88 is lucky he lives 500 miles from me...
