i am change my MOBIL 1 synthetic oil & the OEM honda filter every 9000 > 10000 km !

I use Mobil every 3000 miles. It is the best I have found
Oh, and I have 227,100 miles on my engine.
I use AMS Fully Synthetic oil.
I use Quaker State, Penzoil, Valvoline, Castrol or even Mobil... whatever major brand is on sale... and I change it every 5k miles
I got 223k miles on my Accord.
I use a pure one filter I usto use fram because of the no slip grip but oh well THey cannpt be that bad because the make honda origonal filters.Originally posted by ACCORD EX

yeah im using the fram no slip filter, its a little smaller than the pure one that was on there, is that normal?
Every 3000 i use Wolf's Head because it's the cheapest possible, or sometimes i spring for Penzoil. it's $.10 more. if your not using synthetic, all oil is the same.

I wouldnt use fram, or OEM honda filters (fram makes some honda filters) In test after test they have been shown to preform poorly. A good cheap solution is PureOne or WIX filters.

The choice of my dad is always some type of Pennsylvania oil. We have many high mileage engines. We found that it works the best, well at least in our case. These are oils like :
Pennzoil
Castrol
Valvoline
etc..
I mean not saying it is better, but we have the 300,000 mile engine running, burning NO oil, no misses, running better than most cars with 100,000 miles(its an American) car. I know some people have greater mileage cars, but i dont bet they have to many American sedans doing it.
Also only use a name brand oil filter, like Fram.
All natural oil is the same, but where it is processed it different. All natural oil has different degrees of quality.
We change our oil at every 4500-5000 miles.

there are many other tests that say basically the same thing.
If you dont believe me about the fram, read the first paragraph of the fram test, and also the conclusions at the bottom.

The Honda filters that were made by Fram are the ones that say "made in Canada" on the label. The part # for these filters is 15400-PT7-005, and the part # for the "good" filter (which I believe was made in the US) is 15400-P0H-305. Stupid Fram filters use bad bypass valves, which causes valvetrain noises when you first start up from starving the engine of oil. I had this happen with my last Honda filter as well, so I guess that explains it.
Back to the topic.... I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-30 and Honda filter (that may be changing, lol) every 5,000 miles. 313,000 miles on motor, no leaks, no burning, and she runs like brand spankin' new (literally...I ain't kidding!)

edit- another bad thing about the fram filters is they use cardboard end caps, and the glue they use breaks off and goes into your engine.

Did you check inside a honda oil filter? It's alot different from a FRAM.
Besides, the filters I buy here in CANADA are made in Japan....

Thats an impressive study the guy did... Ok class lets all grab our filters and slap it onto a lathe.
I may end up doing some of the basic tests the guy did... with fram and the usual filters you can grab off the shelf... I don't see many HONDA labled filters though.

Most oils are they same, if you really wanna make a difference go to synthetic, mobil 1 seems to be a great choice. As for filters, you cant beat the honda filters, they have the best anti drainback valve and they have more filter area then almost any other filter

I've been burning oil or leaking it, one of the two, or maybe just not burning but whatever. My car goes in for an oil change and tune up soon so I will have them use Mobil and I'll let you guys know if it gets any better.
I have used synthetic (whatever is on sale) since the car was new. I go for a high priced filter (Fram X1, NAPA Gold - same as WIX, etc.) and run the oil 10,000 miles. I end going about 10 months between oil changes. Hasn't seemed to have hurt anything in 204,000 miles.
Conventional oils can go at least 5,000-6,000 miles these days. 3,000 mile oil changes went out with the SF or SG motor oils that were in use 15 years ago. But, hey, whatever makes you feel good. I would opt for the longer drain interval as it makes for less used oil to dispose of.
Mantis88LX, i would not worry about it. I mean there are tests, but i dont really believe them. We use Fram, and for the most part have for the past 5 or 6 years, or even longer. Like i said no damage to the cars.
