is there a way to lower my fast idle, but keep warm idle the same?

when i start my car up and its cold, it will have the rpms at just about 2000, for at least 10 minutes.. its really obnoxious... and i am sure its unecesary... could i slow it down, make it fast idle at like 1400, and then have the regular idle the same, around 950..??? im worried that if i bump my idle down when the car is cold, that by teh time it warms up it will die..

any advice, or am i just being bitchy? heheh

i wish it only had the rpms up high for 30 sec or so...

well its done it for a long time

do you think maybe once i added headers the car just takes longer to warm up since a lot more heat can escape, and there is no heat shield?

I duno my new EX-i idles at like 2000 rpms for a minute or two then it goes down to 900 and stays steady there. But only when its starting cold.

    STFU jk!!

your car "works properly" mine doesnt.. so how does that help me lol...

anyway i am gonna try to just lower my idle when in fast idle mode, and see how the car does when warm, i dont care if it idles lower, like 700, as long as it doesnt die.

Im pretty sure that on carbs there is a sensor thats on the right side of the carb lid that controls the fast idle on and off... you can manually adjust the idle speed on your carb also... With FI you may need to reset the ECU.

    Bobafett,

87AccordsterLx has a good idea, try resetting the ECU first... Just make sure the car is already warmed up. then shut it off, pull the fuse for the ECU/CLOCK #11 in the box under the hood for about 5 min then replace and start the car but don't touch the gas pedal or anything for 10 mins just let it idle.. See if that helps the fast idle problem next time the car is cold???

check your fast idle valve. That controls the cold idle.
