    Shavin the block

I tryed the serch function found little but I was wondering if you can shave the block at all to increase compression. I was curious because my friend took off a half mm from his saturn block and well it made a nice low end diff and well you know.

hmm I never heard of people shaving the block, but I have heard of people shaving the head to bump up compression.

Its def shaving the head but I have also heard you can take a layer out of your head gasket to bump up compression(the gasket has three copper plys please correct me if I am wrong about the gasket. It might only be later model hondas with this gasket.)

I have heard the same thing about headgaskests. I am pretty sure our A20s work the same way. Less of a head gasket creates more compression. Thats why some people with turbos will run 3 head gaskets to lower the compression just enough to squeeze more boost.

hehe i know this is a 3g board.. but
my sister got her head shaved and got a skinnier but stronger head gasket
the difference this made was insane...
the motor was rebuilt to stock trim when my step dad had it .. bucz it blew.. he told them to shave the head and skinnier gasket..
    the car pulls... like wow:super:
3rd gear used to be from 55mph to like 75mph.. now the car redlines in 3rd at 82mph....

you can shave blocks too, its just more work. Shave too much on the heads and youll weaken them. BTW when you do shave either it tweaks your cam and ignition timing slightly.

the block can be shaved no problem. There are even guides on the block to show you where to stop

Like mentioned above, when you shave the head alot, it retards the cam so you'll need an adjustable cam gear.

wow, i never heard about this till now. So how much compression are you gaining anyway? and also is there gonna be a leak problem associated with this?

YASU: do we have adjustable cam gears to replace stock A20 gears?

I was thinking about that and possiable moving the actual belt instead of the gear.

As for compresstion my friends saturn went from a 9.3 to a 10.1 with some shaving but I am not sure for our blocks.

Where were you planning to move the timing belt to? You would need to remove a lot of material before you'd be exactly one tooth off.

so if I wanted to port and polish the head, what would I have to do to get the compression down to 8 or lower to run a 12psi turbo, and will the b16 intake manifold raise the compression too??
I know it pulls more after 3, but is that all??

    what do you guys think?
