when air moves it makes sound. when you route it through different size pipes or at a different speed it makes a different sound. just like a musical instrument. with different intakes you are just routing the air differently.

A SRI takes the air from inside of your engine bay,a CAI brings air from outside your engine bay= colder air.

I would think an SRI is louder that a CAI.

I am not too sure on how loud because when I am outside it sounds the same I just think it is because the SRI is closer to you.
