    allright, can soneone explain the difference and function of the shocks and the springs?

    The springs support the car's weight and allow the wheels to follow the surface of the road. The struts dampen out the oscillations (prevent bouncing) of the car's mass.

    I agree 100%. Actually, I'll be that there's a lot of people on this board that obviously got the general idea of what each is, but can everyone explain their function?

    the shock absorbs the road conture. ie) bumps, dips, potholes etc

    now like any spring once compressed it has a butt load of potential energy and it wants to decompress. If this happened with a spring like the one on cars, it was take the wheels off the ground and make it very hard to drive. The shocks will resist against the shock. most have a valve inside that restricts the flow of a liquid. this dampens the spring.
