    Carb Rebuilt, HELP!

It's back on the car, and it runs.

First, my idle is about 3000. REAL fast.

Second, it diesels when it is turned off. Lots. Vac lines all seem good. Pulling back on the gas pedal gets the idle down a little, but not much.

UGH! It sounds like it might be running better, but it needs tuning like crazy!

Oh, and it seems as if the linkage ain't able to come in contact with the idle adjustment screw.

what do you mean it diesels when you shut it off? im debating on whether or not to rebuild my carb with my birthday money (if someone remembers my birthday this year. last year my mom forgot and felt bad so i got a 1500 dollar compter so no complaint.
one of my 88 lx's is up for parts. good engine and transmission. pretty much everything is there. the fenders and hood are bad but other than that it's pretty good.

RIP my beutiful 5g coupe. May the villans rot in hell!

Continues to try and run after turning off the keys. It's usually due to an over-rich mixture.

Why's 3000rpm? What is keeping throttle slightly open?
    - could be fast idle cam.. (is choke flap completely open?)
    - could be throttle controller diaphragm, check the vacuum on #6 (or #20)
Forget the dieseling till u solve the 3000rpm "idle".

Ok, focusing on the idle issue. Will check vac on #6 and #20, as well as all linkages. It does seem that it might diesel if it were killed at a high rpm from just that alone. I did try and make sure to seat the idle mix as the same as it was.

Will work on only the idle issue first, then the mixture if it's still needed.

Choke has not opened up yet, but looking at the linkage I can't tell exactly where it is binding or held out.

I don't think it is the mixture, I really have a feeling it is your choke. You could play around with the mix, but I think that might remedy the problem and it wont fix it.

I have that feeling too. I'll be taking it loose from the carb bit by bit if I have to. I don't wanna lose the choke, but I am not going to be carless much longer no matter what. ;-)

It beats the 500-700 dollars it costs to have it Professionally rebuilt. Even if you have to buy my carb it's still one hell of a deal.

  12. #12
Yeah, I know. It's crazy how much people want to rebuild these carbs, when it only took me a couple hours and was my first carb rebuild in years. Sure, I mucked up the choke, but I bet I can get it fixed.

Well they just do it because they can. I mean, if you were a carb rebuilder I am sure you would charge a lot too (maybe not that much). But no worries, sounds like a few quick fixes and you should be okay. I'm going to put mine up for dibs in the Marketplace. If you need it though you have first dibs no matter how much others are offering.

I'll know by the end of tomorrow, I hope! Shouldn't be too hard. Of course, we know how it is with these things. I hope she's running strong by this evening though.
I've got a victory 12 pack of Heineken waiting for it...

Open the choke with ur hand by pulling the linkage, then tap the throttle, the high idle cam should disengage => IDLE!!!
If choke flap doesnt open, the choke heater doesnt heat the bimetallic spring, check if the wire is plugged in! If it is, u should check the voltage to the wire. Best way is to connect a multimeter there and read the amps...

  16. #16
Roger that. Even have a multimeter here. Since I rebuilt this carb the day before yesterday, something tells me I have linkage goofed somehow.

Dude you got to break out a 24 pack! Start to finish I think the only time I won't drink and modify my car is when I help do the paint job. That would probably be a bad time to be drinking.

WHO'S THE BEST CARB MAN ALIVE?!?!?!?!?!

    MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Actually, someone else I am sure, but it works! The victory pack is gone, followed by another 6 or so. Man, what a bear!

Thanks again folks, I could not have done this without you guys. GhettoAccord, you can sell the carb to whomever needs it, for I do not. My car is running like brand new.

    WAHOOOO!

    Thanks again bro!
