yes the screw control the idle mixture, not off idle mixture.

    have you checked your plugs?

yes you need to take the lid off.. its not that hard man... a couple of hoses and like 6 bolts or so... all 10mm.

Sometimes "black smoke = burned oil". How is ur oil?
If oil ok, then it might be lack of dist. centrifugal advance. I dismantled tree dists so far and all had the rotor shaft stuck = no centrifugal advance!

in december 2002 the Honda dealed reinstalled the timing belt and adjusted the timing

it's perfect now can't even feel that the car is running at idle

when my father had the timing belt replaced last summer (at a small garage) the guy fucked the timing and as the winter arrived we started having problems with it so my father took it to the dealer

and we just had the compression checked on all the cylinders and it's perfect
    and it's not burning oil

    BTW most cars are 10 +- 2 degrees ( timing ) ours are 20 +- 2 degrees for for carbs !

"em_ >>> ..in december 2002 the Honda dealer reinstalled the timing belt and adjusted the timing it's perfect now can't even feel that the car is running at idle..."

You complained about smoke @ 4000rpm not @ idle !
Proly ur HONDA dealer adjusted timing with a light like we all do @ idle, that's vacuum advance.
To get to centrifugal advance u have to take the dist. apart, clean it and grease it. Do it yourself, peak a dist from junkyard and practice on it. If u keep going back to HONDA, they'll charge u big $$$$$$$$.

can someone explain why my car idles at 3000 rpms when i first start it? at a warm idle, it's at 1000. and the strange thing is, after the 3000 rpms calm down, it wants to shut off. as if i'm misfiring or something, but then when my temp gauge goes to normal, the car is fine. i'm pretty sure this can't be good.

well, before, it wouldn't stay idle unless i gassed it. after that, i adjusted my air/fuel mix and timing then it worked fine for a while, then the problem started to kick it. after that, i replaced the distributor cap, and plugs and wires. the engine will automatically rev it self from keepin from shuttin off. but sometimes, it just shuts off completely.
