    Goodbye 88 LX, hello 90 EX-R

I sold my 88 LX last month. Sad to see it go after doing all that work on it. But I know the new owner and I know he'll take good care of it. Some pics of it after washing it before the guy came to pick it up. Hard to believe I got this car for $500CAD (roughly $375US) 2 years ago.

For the same amount I sold the 88 for, I picked up my friend's 90 Accord EX-R (in the US, it's EX). So basically, I just upgraded the car for free. It's fully loaded auto.

I've already starting working on it but everything pretty much is consisting of cheap mods again like the 88. Used e-bay coilovers for $50, APC clears (like $10), free parts my friends with 4th gens didn't need, painting the valve cover and manifold heat shield, $20 hood bra to cover a small patch of rust (temporary til I can get it the new hood painted) etc. The most I had to spend was when I rebuilt the suspension (new bushings and balljoints) and bought 4 matching leather door panels from an SE Accord to replace the old ones (the carpet trim was ripped on the old ones) for a couple hundred (combined). But that was money well spent I think especially since the interior color code was the same which is hard to find and the car drives like new with the new parts.

I have to clean out the EGR ports (due to very high NOx readings during emmissions) but everything else works great. Once I finish the 86, this car will become my GF's car just like the 88.

Day I brought it home (bone stock)

    And today:

No plans for swaps or anything unless I blow the stock motor. Even though there's a great selection of motors that drop right in, it doesn't really excite me enough to justify spending money and I have my hands full with the 86 anyways.

The 88 was raised back to stock quite a while ago. It was too low for my GF to drive and plus we went snowboarding lots so stock was best. I gave the new owner the springs, old 5 star mags, and a bunch of other stuff so it was a good deal for him and I was happy with the price as well.

As for the projectors, my friend has them on his 90 and they were brutally bad for lighting. His high beams were the same brightness as the stock low beams so that's kind of made me shy away from them. If anything, I may get the JDM one piece headlights since the place I got my B20A has a bunch of used ones for cheap. I was lucky with this car as well since I got it for cheap and had a bunch of people selling or giving away stuff they no longer needed for their 4th gen so I really haven't spent much. Only thing planned in the near future is red/clear tails (friend is going to give me those after he does the 92/93 4dr trunk/tailight conversion), a front and rear lip (junkyard time!), and either KYB AGX rear struts or Koni yellows because the near new OEM rear stock struts aren't cutting it and then I'll lower it some more. The fronts are surprisingly good though with the stocks.

I already asked about whether he really wanted the lip or not since alot of people PM'ed me to see if I'd part it before selling the car. He gave me a very firm "Yes, I like the car with it" so I'm not asking again. BUT, I asked the Honda parts department where I always get stuff to see if they still make those CRX lips and they said it shows up in their computer. Has anyone thought of just ordering two new ones? I think it was $50 a lip. I'm looking around for one right now because the 4th gen rear bumper curves just like the 3rd gen front and I'd like to use a CRX lip like accordlx did.

As for h22 swap, that is something I will definelty not do unless I sell my 86 but that's not going to happen either. The only swap I will consider is h23a (still a bit expensive) or the JDM f22b (more in my price range) and that is if I blow up my f22 or I come across a very good deal. The JDM f20a is okay as well but it costs about the same as a f22b so I'd rather go with that. And I like having an auto for a daily driver (you don't hear that much do you LOL) so that'll stay the same as well.

I bet you could almost buy a front bumper from a body kit for $100 though. And there wouldn't be any modding. I think I will just save up for a kit. Thanks for letting us know about the lip.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Might be a good idea though if you've found one for really cheap and can't find a second one anywhere. I'm going to hit the wreckers real soon so I'll try to get as many as possible. Phoning all the usual wreckers wasn't too promising. I guess the 1st gens are sort of rare now. For future reference, the part number for the lip is:
60853-SB2-000 (HF, should be the one we want)
60853-SB2-910 (for the DX and SI, not sure what the difference is)
San Leandro Honda shows it's $53 a lip.

Are those the part numbers for the 1st gen teg lips? Around here any CRX's are not in the wreckers and no tegs are in there either. These cars are the most sought after cars around here for some reason.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah Mike, I love the 4th gens just as much (maybe even more) than the 3rd gens since they are the reason I got into Accords. Even after 13 years, they are just the right roundness (for my taste), the front end looks clean, and the interior is very nicely equipped. It's also very smooth since this is the first gen they started using balance shafts in the engine.

For the projector lights, Blazin is right. Ebay always has tons of them for sale. I usually type in Accord headlights and get like 20 different auctions. Lots of different kinds (chrome, blacked out, JDM, etc).
