    Question Whats Your Favorite Exhaust

of course. a lot of peeps here have custom exhaust systems on their 3gees. im guessing most of us have cat backs. but when i get my exhaust, i want to go whole hog. i want to get my pace setter header, 2.25in cat, and 2.25in pipes. maybe smaller cuz i want to get a "Y" pipe to make dual mufflers comming out the back. the exhaust shop told me not to go any bigger on my car cuz it will have hardly any with 2.50 in pipes. well tell me what u want on ur car or wut u already have and or plan to do.

I plan to go with DC Sports headers, 2.25" pipe with a high-flow cat, and some not-yet-identified muffler that is not too restrictive but not too loud. If you can see straight through the muffler, then it probably flows well.

Of course, if I have my way, this will all be on a B20a... hey, that rhymed!

Custom 4-1 header... 2.50" pipe after the header
APEXI N1 or a TANABE to finish it all off.
Or if possible the DTM used on the Touring Alfa's. Gawd I love dem cars. The muffler is a bit large though... got to see one up close.

That setup should max out the top-end power, but low-end torque will be hurtin'. Gonna do some draggin'?

Be interesting to see how the fat exhaust and 4-1 headers fare. Conventional wisdom is that 4-2-1 and 2.25" keeps low-end torque but your setup maxes top-end power. Decisions, decisions...

Yeah I know all that... it's why I'm building the header to go with my cam (4,000-7,500). http://www.cardomain.com/id/a20a1e

But when designing the header I kept in mind the stock redline of the lx-i which is around 6,500, so my header might still work well on 3Gs other then mine with a fair increase in power over stock. but it's all just theory till I make it and test it.

Ok had a change of plans.
First I get an inline muffler and stick it closer to where the cat used to be:
    MUFFLER

Then I add a Dual Tip on the end of the exhuat pipe.
    TIP

oh and a cat before the muffler.
    CAT

possibly a better in line exhaust, but it's real expensive.

    An alternative inline muffler.

i have 2.25 catback and not muffler, just a cat and a resonator to quiet it down...

i plan on saving for a turbo project though, so 2.25 has to go. and my new plan is 2.5 stainless steel mandrel bends from JCW, high flow cat (www.massivemotorsports.com) and then a fireball style muffler (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33636)

    whatcha think?

the aluminized steel mandrel bends cost $58 to build the whole system. and i am not sure how much more it will cost for mandrel bent stainless steel bends... prolly too much more

Nothing yet.. after my new setup (b16a), I'm planning on DC or mugen headers running to a hi-flow cat and 2 or 2.25" piping out through custom dual exhaust with two dynomax superturbo mufflers.

You should do well with a 2.5 inch....don't go bigger. Trust me 2.5 is big already but it'll work for the mods that you got.

I just did my first accord exhaust mod today.....stock pipe (yeah, i know, too small, but 2.25 is coming in the future) and a resonator, no cat, and an oval glasspack with dual DTM style tips on the end. I didn't spend too much money, but i already notice a power increase, and it sounds AWESOME. kinda on the loud side, but nice and deep.

a20a1...I'm assuming if your going for rally you want more backpressure so you have greater acceleration out of corners. or if you want a low back pressure muffler, like the two you have showed, i would recommend a dynomax turbo, flowmaster delta, or a dynomax bullet(<----way loud!) I am putting the bullet or a flowmaster on my bonneville and then putting exhaust splitting into duals at the rear. it's a project

im thinkin that 2.50 is the biggest u wanna go. on most 4 cylinders, u go any bigger, it atually loses power when u go any bigger than that. they muffler shop i went and discussed makeing my custom exhaust said i wasnt the first one with that car to come in. they said they had the best results with 2.25 because ur low end is crap when u go bigger. when u have some nice engine mods, i think i would be ok though to go into 2.50

I wanna do pacesetter headers->2.25 downpipe->no cat->straight 2.25 piping. Will there be any welding/professional assistance needed or can i do this myself if i manage to get the parts together?

I plan on running at least 2.5" pipe then have it Y to 2" and have dual mufflers. That is my basic guess for now. It probably will change accordingly with my hp.

I have pacesetter header with 2 inch straight pipe mandrel bends all the way out to a APC oval muffler, no cat or resonator, its kinda quiet but nice power in mid to top with no low end lost

don't go for bigger then 2.5 inch exaust that will give you a good balance, i run a 2.5 inch with a straight through cherry bomb glass pack and an aluminum tip that i turned myself, it resonates and produces a really good exaust note. when i did my a pipe(thats the pipe that goes from the header to the cat, it's now two inches with a new flex coupling) it picked up a lot more high end power. two big a pipe will disrupt the exaust pulses and you'll lose the scavenging effect. when i can get back on line with my own computer i will post a pic.
