How rare is it to find a turbo for my factory 2.0?? Heeeelllp!?!![]()
Extreemly rare so rare in fact I only know of three members that have done it it is all custom I don't know enough to help a lot look the the faq and how to section and run a search talk to 88turboaccord, jonny O and sean.
finding a turbo is not the difficult part. You need to go custom on the piping
the piping is not the difficult part. you need to save a lot of money
its not the turbo system thats spendy, its all the safety and supporting mods.![]()
Thnx guys. I appreciate it:pimp:
:super:
1. custom turbo header $$$
2. custom intake $
3. fuel/ignition system mods $$$$
4. Gadgets $$

yeah pos graph covers it pretty well!
but there also need to be a turbo hardware category
for turbo, BOV, FMIC, those key things~!![]()
BOV/FMIC aren't really needed, depending on boost levels...
And I would think the most expensive parts would be the custom turbo manifold, and the engine internals...?
The GSX was killed, I need something new...
It probably will be a good idea to get pistions. You will crack the pistons running around 8psi. But they have to be made custom as far as I know. I haven't seen any aftermarket pistions that are not OEM.
I'm your local R&D nut. Fabracting, welding, tuning and breaking my stuff so you don't have to.
I'll give you an idea of what its costing on my nova/corolla/what ever you want to call it, which I just decided to give up on the supercharging and go with turbo.
USDM 4AGZE from a 88 toyota MR2 supercharged ($800) + rebuild (came with supercharger, ecu and harness which I'll prolaby sell to get about half of that back)
Comes from the factory superchaged so its already been fitted with most of the parts it needs. 8.5:1 ceramic coated dished pistons, stronger crank rods, 350cc injectors, etc. I forget what the rebuild cost all together. There were some burnt valves and I had some mild portwork done while it was at the shop.
JDM E51 transmission & axles from 92 Corolla Levin GTZ($600)
Much beefier equal length axles and a stronger case then the USDM parts. Plus its geared taller to take advantage of the increaced torque.
NEW old stock Garret VNT25 turbo ($450)
The type used on the shelby csx. VNT turbos spool up very quickly, I coudln't pass it up.
JGS turbo manifold kit ($249.99)
Pre-fabed log and all the parts you need to finish it. I think its a good way to do a custom instalation. They send it with a flange for what ever turbo you fancy. They will do a manifold for a 3g if you supply them with a gasket for $40 more.
Mitsubishi Starion front mount intercooler ($110)
The end tanks have yet to be mofified so I'm not sure what the grand total is going to be on this.
The ecu is coming from Sean (aka)funstick, all the details haven't been worked out yet so no total. See his thread in the market place section for pricing on that.
The fuel system was converted to efi with a mallory comp efi pump, an-8 lines (aluminum for the hard and braided steel for the soft), a TRD (made by TWM) boost sensing pressure regulator, and a custom tank pickup. Don't have a total for all these goodies but it wasn't cheap.
The brakes were up graded as well because what speeds up eventually has to slow back down. All junkyard parts, Celica GT vented disks up front (toyota fitted the early front drive Corollas with solid front disks), and Corolla FX-16 rear disks. The back disks are just about as rare as SE-i ones.
There's a whole lot of other little stuff in there too that probalby adds up to at least another $500.
An accord is going to be similar though I doubt you'll find a nice beefy tranny in japan some where to bolt on to an a20. I would use a 5 speed from a LX or DX. You could also get a turbo alot cheaper then I did, but it won't spool up as fast.
