What do you guys think of American Legacy Amps?

I was looking at some Legacy American amps on amazon.com. Even the high wattage amps aren't very expensive; which makes me think that they must be really really crappy. Too good to be true. Is there a huge difference in sound quality between amps or is it basically just build quality?
    thanks

it is a build quality and power levels.
cheap amp may say it is pushing 1000watt but actually it may not even push 500watt at all.
how much do you want to spend on the amp?
how much power are you looking for?

do you mean 100watts x4 rms? for something like that i would expect to spend anywhere from 200-300 for a good amp. if you dont really care about having a good system then sure buy a cheap jensen amp, but if you want a real stereo save up your money and buy a good amp. go look on ebay youll probably find the best deal there unless you have friends with connections

With the 1200w one dont expect more than about 150wrms out of it, they are very overrated. Also people tend to smoke them all the time, their sound quality isnt the greatest, and their design isnt anything to rave over. If i were you id save my money and get somthing better, in car audio you usually get what you pay for.

i used to run a 800w legacy amp. it drew a lot of power and made the lights dim, but wasn't all that loud. my new amp is a JBL subwoofer only amp. it is 150wX1 rms with 95% efficiency (whatever that means). it is WAY louder and cleaner, and doesn't draw much power fro the battery. i would definately save your money. i paid $230 cdn on sale, so that's not too much more than you wanted to spend.

There are many mis-conceptions in car audio, and I'll try to help you out with one of them...

More wattage doesn't have nearly as big an affect on the loudness of your system as your box design. You could have your 15 legacy in some crappy box with 1000 watts and I could build a ported box for it that would get louder with 100 watts.

BOX DESIGN is the MOST important thing in a subwoofer set-up.

So if I were you, and didn't want to spend a lot, I'd get the Legacy 800 watt amp because the over-ratings on both of them would probably match up so you wouldn't blow the sub. Then, if you want it loud, build a ported box for it and tune it somewhere between 35-45 hz. You'll break your ears.

believe him... i can vouch for that. I dont think youd get more than 200 or so watts rms from that amp... save your money or get somthing used
