I have read the how to on swapping from auto to stick. What I didn't see was if I had to cut a hole in the firewall or is there just a punch out that I will have to take a hammer to. Also, how many of you have done this mod? I know that autos do not put as much power done to the ground as a stick due to the torqe convertor. so this would increase acceleration.

I have just finished that swap in my car. Was a 86 lx auto/carb. Now a 86/88 lxi FI/5-speed.
To answer your question. Are you talking about the cluch cable?
If so, there is a hole already there, it's just covered by a rubber plug that you have to remove.
Another thing.. Do you have the petal assembly, cluch switch (for the pedal), cv joints and ecu?

you dont need the ecu for the swap, the ecus are not different for auto or 5 speed

Then why is it included in the How-To??? I've always wondered about that because I had a feeling that our cars ECUs don't monitor the tranny.......
