I have a 89 DX with 5 speed tranny that needs replaced, i havee been told since its carburated theres something different about this tranny than the ones in the same year fuel injected ones. NEED some info. Will a tranny out of a fuel injected 87 Accord work in mine? Does anybody know, Thanks

Im sure it will, I think the differance is the gear ratios.

Yea everything is the same except gear ratios. The carbed trannies have a longer gear ratio which yields better highway RPMs. The fuel injected trannies are closer for better acceleration.

i have also heard from another member that the 86 lxi (not sure about carbed) trannies, will only fit other 86's, since its the BT engine, and not truley the a20a3... something to consider if it is an 86 tranny or if your car is an 86

I am not sure about that, but I had the 86 Prelude Si tranny in my car and that wasnt an A20A3 either. It was the 86-87 LXi engine.

well i had never heard it on the board, so i dont have any real evidence. the tranny we put in ambers car CAME out of of an 86, into an 86, and it worked fine.

the reason i might belive it is because the a20a3 didnt happen until 87..

but if the 86 lude one worked, then i have to assume they all would! thx man

Thanks guys, the only thing that confuses me is ive called some salvage lots in the wichita area and they always ask me if i have a carbed or injected engine, when i ask what the difference is they dont really know but they dont think they will work, I have a 89 DX Accord and where the number is suppose to be on the tranny its not there , so i am not sure on which tranny it is.I dont want to buy a used tranny until i know for sure if it will fit. apreciate all the feedback, Rell
