Front Bumper Help

The right side of my front bumper popped out when doing 10mph and I hit my aunt from behind. Don't ask why! I took my bumper off and I noticed that my reinforcement (the metal part behind the bumper) bent and I can't seem to get both sides on at the same time since they are supposed to slide right on. Is there a way around this so I don't have to buy a new reinforcement or even a new bumper?

if the bumper didn't break or anything i don't see how you could have bent the reinforcement. do you have any pics with better lighting so i can take a look at it?

if your reinforcement is bent just bend it back with a 3lb hammer.

cut the rebar so all you have is the two pieces that bolt up to the car like that no more prob and weight reduction in one easy step.

yea and then you hit something and rather than the reinforcement taking the blow your radiator and radiator support do, causeing more damage. smart.

so you're saying removing everything from my bumber so its just fiberglass and styrophone?

don't do that. that would seriously be dumb. and dangerous. i don't see the bent part of the support so it mustn't be that bad. just bang it out with a sledge hammer and bolt it back up.

are you saying the bumper reinforcement or the core support is bent? because i don't see either bent.

Those rims are amazing

I think if you can't bend it back you'll have to get a new one or cut and reweld.

Did you try to install the metal part first, then the foam and the bumper? that way you can loosen and move those 2 rubber mounts around, and then tighten them down once the metal bumper is on.

I guess you can use flat bars of metal with the holes already cut into them so you can bend and shape the metal into somehting simmilar to what I have.

Sorry this is one time where drawing a pic doesn't work... I'll go looking for a pic if you don't manage to get one...

I looked thru the chiltons and I figured thats why you removed the entire bumper in order to reattatch the corner instead of just the bumper skin... I suppose haynes could be the same way though.

Okay... so remove the bumper like you had it before...

then remove all the screws on the top of the bumper...

I pointed to most of them in the pic below with red lines.

with the top screws removed... you need to locate two more screws... well they are 10mm bolts, and they hold the bumper skin to the metal bumper just like the screws did. I think they are behind the cut outs for the fog lights but just in case I'll try and find a pic an mark those out with red lines too.


Now remove the bumper foam... chances are this is puting pressure on your bumper skin because of the bend in the metal bumper.

now with the foam removed... reinstall the 2 bolts that secured the lower part of the bumper skin to the metal bumper... and install only the central philips head screw on the top of the bumper... this way the bumper can pivot over the bend in the metal bumper once the bumper assembly is installed back on the car.

The yellow circle marks the central screw used as the pivot for the bumper... the rest of the screws you leave out... unless you find that some of the holes still line up. don't try to force the holes to line up because chances are that the srew holes that don't line up are another reason the bumper skin was pushed out of allignment.

hey meohmy01 its not a stupid idea just dont run into any one granted if any thing did happen you could cause more damage but not likely cause if you hit any thing other than a poll the rebar that is left would still do its job at spreading the impact into the frame rails remember you are only taking a foot or two of the bar out.
