    bouncing speed-o

i've noticed when i'm driving slowly, 0-20mph, the needle bounces. if you've had your rpm meter have the prob of reving, that is kinda what it reminds me of. has anyone else run into this prob? i'm hoping this isn't something that i can't fix. holla back.

i think its the cable, its not hurting anything, but if it really really bothers you, you can try lubing or replacing it

There is a 90% chance that it is the cable You need to use a good graphite lube spray not just anything A bouncing speedo is the first sign that the cable is dry.Eventually the cable will snap if not lubed

I removed the cable and put a thin layer of grease along the entire length of the cable and still have bouncing below about 40 mi/hr. Is a new cable likely to correct this or should I grease the bushing in the speedometer as recommended in one of the easlier posts?

from the sound of that, i hope you didn't lube the outside...:lol you have to take out your instrument cluster and unplug the speedo cable behind it. get silicone grease (with the little straw) and spray into the cable until a sufficient amount has flowed through the entire length of the cable inside.

i did this driving the car slowly around the block with the instrument cluster off and spraying the cable with STP silicone spray as the speedo cable was spinning.

also make sure your speedo cable doesnt have a very sharp bend toward the tranny. it should be a gradual arc and not some twisty windy thing going around every obstruction in the engine.

I removed the cable at the speed sensor end, covered it with a thin layer of multipurpose grease and reconnected the cable to the speed sensor. There aren't any kinks or sharp bends in the cable. I have some silicone spray that I'll go ahead and try.

Could be a battery connection, I had the same prob, and i just cleaned up the connections, gave them a little red paint (prevent corrosion) and no problems since. Speedo bounce between 0-20, but im doing that speed when i start it..

he's talking about a speedo cable, not rpm. rpm doesnt have a cable.
