    Angry Pumping the brakes (HELP)

    Hello,

I posted messages before about my car dying at a stop light or when I slow down. I used carburetor cleaner and everything but it still dies. I found out something today: When I pump the brakes several times in a row it will make my car rev up and down and make it die!! Is it normal?

My car is a Honda Accord LX 1989...

    Thanks!

you have some kind of manifold vacuum leak.

or the diaphragm on the brake booster attatched to the brake pedal may be leaking.

I dont know anything about cars really, but can you tell me if that is serious or not? Have you ever heard about that before? Is it hard to fix? Because I am trying to sell my car....
When I am in neutral and I start pumping the brakes the car will die if I do it 5 or 6 times in a row.... maybe if there is some kind of leak that is why my car dies when I slow down, which is pretty much as soon as I brake...

It's not hard to fix all you have to do is get new vacuum hoses for those things or just make sure that the hoses are on all the way. Well I guess it's up to you if you think it's serious. You could just have it keep dying and have people affraid to buy it from you. Or you can fix it for a few bucks. If you do sell the car please inform the new owner of this site so that they can have the database of knowledge.

Qpats also mentioned it reving up first... so it could also be a leak near the idle diaphragm...

but more then likely it's the brake booster vacuum line, like Mike said.

A manifold vacuum leak pretty much causes hell with all the carbs functions. but is easy to repair once you locate it.

Yesterday, I used carburetor Cleaner again and if I put some in the carburetor while running, it will make the car rev higher. Does that possibly indicate a vacuum leak?

    Thanks!

mine will do that very very slightly once in a while. if i have it in park and pump the brake, it will slightly rev but not noticeable unless u see the tac. while we on the subject, would replacing all the vacuum lines be a good thing? and where can i get them cuz i dont think i can just go to Auto Zone and get perfect fitting ones.
Keep it HONDA. Or at least Asian.™
