    Question Battery Warning Light

Whenever I gun my car at takeoff, the battery warning light comes on. Why is this? I've got new plugs and wires and my battery is new, only 4or5months old. The light flutter's off and on at around 60mph, it doesn't stay on consistantly. After stopping the car, I guess it charges back up and there's no problem. When I'm gunning it should the stereo be turned down so I don't drain the battery? The amp is only 300watts and my battery is 800cca.

Have you checked for loose ground wires?

Try and drive with the stero off and see if it still does it.

No, I haven't checked that yet. Okay I'll try no stereo and also in each of the three times it did that, the lights were on.

Just got in the car and the light is on now, flashing. So I don't think the battery ever recharged. The amp was installed to turn on when the car is on. How would i turn it off.

Well, if it happens when u gun it, then the light my come on because your alternator is temporary weak. Whenever u gun it, power is focused on making u go faster, so the belt systems all slow down. I'm sure if ur headlights are on and u gun it, they will dim along with all the other lights in ur car and ur A/C would warm up a little. Thats my theory.

i am gonna say it is your alternator. When ever you see the battery light, this means your belt is not tight or your alterantor is not working right.

I'm waiting now, I took it to pepboys and they said alternator is overcharging possibly a bad regulator in the alt, I looked under there and the amp fuse case is cracked. Like the hood was slammed down on it, I tightened it up. Maybe this was the problem? I'm gonna let'er sit for an hour or two than go crank it up and see if it has recharged or not. Is this a good strategy?

Yeah alternator, what happen was that either the people who put in my stereo (circuit city) or the Garage that I had my alternator replaced in (back in Feb.) didn't put the ground wire back onto my motor. I was laid beside the motor, touching it but not mounted to the engine. That helped kill my alternator.

My dad did my alt and he never put the ground back on the alt.So it killed a new alt and battery.
