    Thumbs down Ford Accord

    This is a technical question with a story to explain what's going on:

    So, a couple of months ago, my friend Matt bought a 3g. He knew when he bought it that the clutch was on the way out, but the car was cheap. So he gets it and drives it around until the clutch gets bad.

    Yesterday he bought a new clutch and we got to work. First of all, we couldn't get the CVs loose at the wheels. We broke two socket wrenches trying to get them off. After we couldn't get them off with an impact drill, we took down the struts and stabalizer bars and just started pulling.

    The passenger side came off no prob, but the driver's side would not budge. We eventually called it a night.

    This morning we went back to work. I put a chain around the CV axle where it goes into the transmission and we HAULED on it. We tried everything but it would not come out. So Matt goes underneath to take the chain off and I hear him say: "This says FORD on it".

    Yes, some guy put a Ford CV axle on this 3g. It will not come off.

    My question is: Is anyone aware of Ford CVs being used on 3gs, or is this just messed right up?

    In order for this to occur, several things need to happen:

    1. Dude needs a CV axle
    2. He has a ford axle kicking around
    3. He contemplates putting it in
    4. He ACTUALY decides to try
    5. Dude realizes it doesn't fit
    6. So he just rams it in.

    We're still looking for other foreign parts that might be on it... ...the valve cover says Honda at least... ...but the engine doesn't have the number stamped in the usual place!!!
    This is messed.

    check the number of splines at the Wheel, is they match with the other axle, that Ford axle might actually fit... I know that Ford makes universal replacement parts... an axle is an axle... It "could" match....

    But honestly, that's some weird shit.

    That's weird.... Time for the torch, and a big hammer! LOL

    I do know though that the instrument clusters in the 6th gen Accord V6's are made by Ford. If you take the cluster out, it's got the Ford logo on the little sticker.

    Does anyone know what a A2A5 manual transmission is from? I spent about half an hour bombing around the net looking for it.

    I still can't find the engine number, but it's probably from a 2g prelude because it's got Dual Sidedraft Carb. I've never worked on a carb accord before, so I thought that maybe some 3gs had this kind of set-up. Now I know better.

    We picked up a Haynes manual for preludes, that says the engine ID should be out front if after 86, and on the back up to 85. But we still can't find it anywhere. There obviously was a power steering pump attached to the engine in the past, though it is gone now.

    So, this car has:

    1. Ford CV axle
    2. Unidentified Transmission
    3. Old ass lude engine.

    They might have used that axle because the stock ones are the wrong length with the new setup. So even if you get it out, make sure the honda one will fit.

    More then likely if it is a ford part its problaby from an escort, which uses a mazda drive train, who problaby get alot of their hard parts from ND or Aisin just like honda does. Its very hard for an idiot with a hammer to force a hardened steel axle into a hardened steel diff unless they parts were so very very close. Some times the axles can be a pain to pull out, esp oem replacement ones that are made to slightly lower standards. The best way to get them out is usualy a pry bar between the cv cup and the case. You have to pull them as strait as you can, a little force to the side can cause the axle to bind more.
