Thumbs up how do I turn off egr?

A friend told me I could gain a few ponies by disabling the egr. Is this true? How would I do that?

I dont know about fuel injected cars since they may throw codes like there's no tomorrow but on carbed cars all you would need to do is disconnect the EGR diagphram and plug the vacuum hose leading to it. What kind of car do you have?

Yeah in that small box under your name... you should list if you have an LX, DX, LX-I, or SE-I

Yeah the (EGR) recirculates exhaust gas... it may be good for emissions... and it has a cooling effect on the engine.
But sniffing exhaust is just filling up your intake with hot gases you just don't need.

It probably wouldnt to disable it for racing, but for everyday driving you want it, it does bring down engine internal temps down quite a bit, which is useful so you dont like, say melt pistons (an extreme example) but ive disabled it before and didnt notice much of a gain. Also the computer will throw a code if its disabled.

hmm... I hear people talking about codes and all. I've never experienced this. I've never seen the "service engine" light come on, or any light like it. So, what is that?

Carbed models do not have a check engine (or PGM-FI) light. Only fuel injected models do, and it comes on when the computer throws an error code.

yeah hes right, unless you have a pgm-fi (LXI-SEI) fuel injected, it does have a control box but it doesnt do much, like give you a CEL or anything

under the drivers seat flip down a little door on the plastic cover. turn the igition to the "on" position but don't start the engine. Then go back and count the flashes. These ECU's are pre obd-1 so i don't think the SES light will come on like on the newer cars.
