    Which Tranny Can I use?

My transmission is absolutely horrible, and it's time to get rid of it. I need to know what tranny's from what cars's will fit in my car without any major modifications. It's an auto and I'm keeping that way. The car is an 86 LXi Hatch.

That's what I'm asking, Obviously I can take the tranny out of an 86 LXi but can I use the tranny from an 86LX or 86DX or 87 or 88 or 89? Do I have to to stay with in the 86-87 years or only use a tranny from a fuel injected engine?

You have to use an Lxi tranny 86-89 doesn't matter, because a Carb tranny is different. That's what the guy at the salvage yard said and what my (Haynes Manual) said on DRIVETRAIN PAGE (7-13). I'm in the same boat as you. I've been looking around too.

I'm sort of in this boat too. Are all the auto trannys the same regardless of BT1, A20A1 and A20A3 engines? I have a 3g with the BT1 and another with the A20A3, but I can't find the trans. number for the BT1, so I can't compare.
Perfection is simply a matter of replacing parts.

They are close and will work. The only difference i know of is that the carb tq converter stalls at a few hundred rpms higher than EFI... you can use them.

The ratios are diferent as well, I don't think anyone has ever come across what they actually are though. The 2.0Si prelude tranny will physically fit, but there are some diferences in the gear switch cable I believe. Do a search on it, some one did it and ran across that problem.

I wouldn't try to put a carb tranny in a fuel injected car. I.M.O.
