1989 Accord LX Specs HELP

Dear 3geez Members,

Ever since the infamous "Flame" thread, I have been doing extensive research on the 1989 Accord LX (89ninjaaccordLX's car) and my 1988 Maxima GXE. I think I have everything but one thing that I need: the gear ratios for the 1989 Honda Accord LX. Once I have this information I will post up all the information everybody needs. So, please, any help given about the specs of your cars would be much appreciated. I have already looked all over the internet (I think I finished the internet...). Oh yeah, also if you have the official quarter mile time for this car, that will come in handy also. Thank you for your help.

i am sorry man, i know a website from japan used to have it, but i totally forgot the site. ask Mike (A20A1) about the ratios he might know it.

I know it's not in the Hayne's repair manual, cause the Hayne's manual doesn't have the ratios for my car. All I could find were engine specs for the EX. But I think that'd be misleading because the performance of the EX seems better - horsepower and all. Plus the numbers I was looking at for the EX was for a 5 speed manual. I need the auto. The search continues...

I got the gear ratios for a 86 Lx or Hatchback, im not sure if they are the same for a 89 though:

I have the '89 shop manual. The gear ratios are pretty much the same as
the previous '86 post, but there are a couple of differences: 1st gear is lower, and the fuel-injected cars have a different final drive than the
carbs.


Standard: 1st:3.272
2nd:1.842

5th:0.694
Final Reduction: 3.866 (Lxi,Se-i 4.066)
Reverse: 3.000

i think gear ratios deserve a sticky, i remember spending god knows how long looking for this information and never could find it. where did you guys find the information? i want to look up the ratios for teg and prelude transmissions. that would help with all the questions relating to the hybrid builds

If you've never looked at the Accord shop manual, they're a gold mine of information. I like the real thing, as opposed to the CD. You can buy them on eBay for about 25-30 bucks.

As far as the Prelude info goes, try your Honda dealer service department. They might have one stashed away for your viewing enjoyment.

www.honda-tech.com has gear ratios for the tegs, i'm sure. good luck finding it in the archives, though. that place is a cespool of amateurs wattering down the good information.
