    Thumbs up True CAI

Ok i finally had some spare time and i was dicking around with my intake and shit and i actually made a true CAI using the stock airbox and tubing. It took a while but the midrange power was well worth it. I didnt notice anything much more on top however. The top pipe that connects to the TB was barely warm to the touch after 30 min of beating the piss out of the car. In contrast, my friends SR for his D16 civic was too hot to even touch after sitting for 5 min, and my other friend that has a Weapon R for his saturn was the same way. I actually fit the air filter and the airbox with the cover chopped off down in the bumper were the resonator and horn reside on the 88-89 lxi/sei but i had to make the hole for the tube bigger and move the battery a bit. Im worried that the filter is gonna get soaked when it rains but oh well... the concessions to making power. Anyways, does anybody else have any experience with true CAI's, not just SR's ?

I just installed a modded teg cai on my car, you can really feel it pull after 3000, it also launches a bit smoother. The car just keeps pulling and pulling now too! I have to mess around with the intake a bit still, but I can already notice a differance, especially at night when the temps drop!

have you heard anything about the new "cryO2" intake? its like a metal bulb that is hooked up to some O2, that you put in the intake, and it cools the air like 35%.(how much do regular CAI's cool???).. it seems pretty cool, if you ask me... you gotta buy a bottle that looks a lot like a NOS bottle.. I'm gonna look into it a little more, and if I decide that its worth the money (about $5-600), I'll post up more info

  6. #6
lol that's like running your intake through your a/c. Don;'t you need to buy liquid oxygen for that? I'd rather just get NOS for that kind of $

no they spray liquid co2 around some of your engine parts and get them really friggin cold. Im sure it works but nos is probably gonna give you more power for the $... but i dont see how it could damage engines like nos somtimes can.

I used a 94-97 Accord CAI. It only took very little modification. THe power gain is crazy! Looking to get headers and 2.25 exhaust piping.

chrome_thangs did you use a two-piece and if so, did both need cutting.... what size piping did you use and did you need to open up the fenderwell hole so the pipe can go through.

yes i'd like to know more about this 94-97 accord CAI, and the 90-93 TEG CAI and the comparisons if anyone knows, horsepower gains and all. i've really been thinking about putting a CAI on my 89` Lx-i but i would like to know how much time it takes and how tough it is to do, and what i need to do. i'm also wanting to cut my exhaust off, and since we dont have state inspections in oklahoma anymore, it doesn't really matter as long as i dont get pulled over for noise pollution or anything, should i cut it before or after the cat? which would sound better? and which would give me more power?

OMg how many threads do we need on CAI?? Ok, a 94 accord cold air intake will fit if you have a one piece like mine or a two!!! You just hafta move the battery sideways and make the hole in the fender bigger!!! With minne the filter hangs below the bumber for direct air but in case of rain you will need to move it up into the bumber so you dont suck water in!!!!

Well w/ the two piece you have to cut bot pieces a little (nothing major) If you don't it won't fit right and your filter will be visible even w/ the bumper on. Any questions? PM me w/ your email address for pics!@

ok. I built mine last year. Aluminum pipe. What diameter do the teg and accord CAI's come in? my pipe is pretty much the same as the tb. I could really feel the difference in the 2.5k-4.5k range, but after that i don't feel much. I was thinking about switching to a Teg or Accord CAI, whichever is cheaper, if its worth it. If the tube is wider it will benefit the higher rpm's right? are they quiter if they are made out of a plastic like substance as opposed to aluminum?

    interesting thread

plastic insulates better and conducts heat less than metal... Yeah i hear ya, after about 4500-5k i dont feel much difference, but from 3-4.5k the car pulls harder

Yeah I'll have to agree, from 3-5k I can feel a differance but after 5k I don't feel much if any differance at all.

Somebody post info on where the cuts need to be made and any other modifications to the car/intake to make this work. It's definitely worth the cash but I'd like to know what's gotta be done to make this thing work.

    Me too.

we really need an FAQ type thing for this, for the teg CAI, and the 5th gen accord CAI... People keep saying it just needs a little modding, but what excactly needs to be done? cuts? where does it need to be cut?... this would benefit many people on the board, so people who have done this, please post.

    Thank you
