delta cam timing?

Ok I finally got my car running with the delta cam... I was not given a card with the cam, but I was told the valve lash specs are .006 intake and .008 exhaust, is this correct? And should I advance the timing at all with this cam? (272)

Start by setting it to the correct TDC mark use a timing gun as a different cam profile will make it slightly retarded ask mike his was all off but we fixed it at the ontario meet (pics in the accord pics section).

So if the cam makes is slightly retarded then you have to advance it a little right?

I think so but it is still best to get a timing light.

I do have a timing light. Will hooking it up to the coil instead of cyl 1 be ok? The light flashes much faster and is easier to read.

If the cam has too high an overlap you'll lose some manifold vacuum. So your distributor advance diaphragm won't pull as much.

high duration increases valve overlap... the time when both the intake and exhaust valves are open.

Ok DeltaCam doesn't send you a card with it. They have a sticker on one of the sides of the box, that has the specs. And for the advancing, just put the light on the 1 cylinder after the cam is installed and check it out. It takes like 5 minutes to do that. My car runs a lot better without the retarded timing (hehehe) except for the clanking exhaust now. If it isn't one thing it's another.

Hey guys I advanced my timing to a few different places, even all the way the dist. would turn and I notice no difference at all. I hear you can advance it until it starts to ping, but I advanced it all the way and no pinging, no power increase either! My car has had no speed improvement since installing the cam, it may even be a bit slower. What's the deal?

set the distributor to TDC... and then make a mark on the head.. then from that mark advance the distributor 3mm... and make a new mark.

Did you check using a timing gun also did you accidently move the timing belt one tooth back. one more thing are your valves set correctly.

Yes valves are correct, and the timing belt is dead on. So I should advance 3 mm? What if I went more? Just to be sure, advancing is turning the distributor against engine rotation, correct?

That's right.
Put it at the recommended timing first and then try to start. If it's okie, then advance more.
