Racecar in need of some mods! HELP ME!

Hello, I am new to this board and I am so pumped that I think we will be able to make this car I built go fast now. Okay here is the scoop, I race a 1988 honda accord 4 door 5 speed on oval track and there are rules now that limit me to what i can do and not do, so before any one says bolt on super charger or anything liek that, let me remind you, this car has to look completely stocjk besides roll cage and gutted interior, now i already raced it couple times and i want to kno if any you guys kno of anythign that will help me. Just for your reference the car runs at 5000 RPM to 7200 RPM the whole race so i need no bottom end at all, all top end, and it runs in second gear the whoel race, the track is only 1/3 mile big but still a blast to drive. Now any takers on helping me with this?

Hello, header would not be allowed, the rules state must have muffler, and must exit behind the driver, so you think cutting the muffle roff would help? What about getting rid of the catalytic coverter? Also, how can I retard the engine timing so that i have more high end power and torque? Like i said, motor is alays revving high in second gear. Please someone help me out, thanks.

Stop bench racing and pick up a wrench

I know my spelling sucks and I suck with computers deal with it.

If the rules only state that the exhaust has to exit behind the drive and the car must have a muffler then a header should be allowed. If I were you and looking for that kind of powerband I'd get a shop to whip me up a long tube 4-1 header then put a glass pack muffler where the cat was and dump the exhaust before the gas tank. If you want any power up near 7200 at all you have to have the cam reground. You'll probalby want to think about some better valve springs (you're getting very near float territory) and definitly stronger rod bolts if you plan to stay up there for any length of time (I believe arp's b18a bolts will work, but double check that before buying anything). You can stuff the guts from a first gen integra trans into your case and get a closer gear set with a 4.11:1 final drive. Phantom grip and opm also make limited slips that will work. You didn't mention wether you car was carbed or efi and if you're allowed to play around with that. If its efi and you're allowed to mess with the manifolds take a look on ebay and see if you can score an ITR manifold, couple minutes with a power drill and it'll bolt right on. If you can mess with the computer talk to sean and get one of his gm ecm setups. If its carbed, a pair of side draft carbs are the way to go. I'd recomend weber 45 DCOEs, some say Delorto is better for all out racing, but they can be more of a pain to setup and keep in tune.

Hello, okay, work with me here, sorry the car is Fuel injected, 2.0, and the rules say u cant mess with ecu or anythign that but there would be no way of them ever knowing, as for rods and valves, too much money for stuff liek that, it is serious racing but not that serious, i am interested in the intake u said i can put on with a couple holes being made cuz i got connects to machine shop, let me kno what else i can do, i want some more info and i want this car to go good, as for suspension u cant lower it or nothign but u can change shocks, let me kno what else.

The arp rod bolts are under $100 and you only need to drop the oil pan to change them. If you are going to be doing extended runs at those rpms do it. They will notice if you change the ecu, plus I don't condone cheating even if it is just for fun racing. As for the manifold do a search for b16 manifolds. There are plenty of posts on it already. You just need to drill or four holes in the thing. Portmatching the head to it is also a good idea. If you're allowed to geting the whole head ported do it. You said you had connections to a machine shop, they should be able to handle that. They also should be able to whip you up an adjustable cam gear so you can move the cam timing back a tad and get a little more out of the top end. Are you allowed to change the springs if you keep the stock ride hight. A set of coil overs would be best alowing you to chose what ever rates you want and you can adjust your corner weights at the track. Koni has just discontinued the reds for the 3rd gen accord, I believe there are still blistien and tokikos available, but it was the general concensus that the konis were the best. Put some sway bars on if the rules will allow it as well.

I know colt does a grind that puts the power band between 4k to 7.5 k I would suggest going with them.

You need to increase your oil pressure... and run either 20w 50 or 60w, there is a how to on increasing oil pressure in the performance or technical sections. I'll try and dig it up.

I have the top end grind from colt thqat 1988starter mentioned but I'm not too sure how well it will work with EFI.

One more issue that concerns me about your post is you keep talking about reving to 7,200 rpm... well thats past the rev limit on EFi's if I remember correctly.

also you might want to look into and oil filter relocation kit and an oil cooler, since pressure drops significantly when the oil heats up.

If you find that you can make/use a custom header, I already worked out some specs that you may use. https://www.3geez.com/showthread.php?...0&pagenumber=2

Don't retard the ignition timing... set it to TDC. the little bit of top end you gain from the retard isn't worth it IMO

    run 92 -93 octane.

if you can change the ignition coil and plugs and wires to a performance variant

The best thing you can do is the B16 intake. You will have to get other parts to match up to the intake. Also it will be the most expensive, but the best. If you just race with the car it should be fine with the stock ECU. Other wise you will need Sean's GM ECU.

    INCREASE OIL PSI

Thats the link to the how-to, for increasing oil pressure.

Ever consider getting an LX-i or even an SE-i? They are fuel injected and in my opinion, better than the LX model and definitely better than the DX model. I'm not bashing on anyone here.

EX-i, I guess your canadian then. The SE-i was the top of the line model. Both cars have the same 120hp version of the a20a3 motor. The SE-i was probably just a tad heavier with all the options, but it had rear disk brakes. The b18c5 typeR manifold is concidered the best for high reving. Heres a good deal on ebay, its got the rail fpr and injectors with it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634. You'll need a tb for it, but those are pretty easy to find. I don't remember if you actually need the fuel rail and injectors or not. I think you do but its best to ask someone who's actually done the swap to clarify that one.
