ok guys here goes!!
my 93 corolla takes 5 1/4 speaks I wat to put some new ones in but who makes them to handle 220 from a head unit
I have a cheapo box in the trunk and sounds good so far but want to put my rears backl please help me out

i don't think you can find speakers that can handle 220 watts of power. plus no HU can make that much power. the max clean power you can pull from HU is around 45 watt RMS. if you want more, get yourself AMP.

220 total maybe, for all 4 speakers each, but not 220 a speaker. If you're looking for a high watt 5 1/4, go with anything infinity makes. Preferably Infinity Kappa's for the BOOM

head units make about 20 watts rms per channel... its imposible to make more power... anyway... go on ebay and get some Infinity's or Alpine, or anything that costs alot

Right so you're looking at about 50 watts a speaker MAX... Thats with volume all the way up. so any speakers you can get are going to handle it. It's not very much wattage, and sense people hardly listen to the deck at full volume, it's even less watts. Infinity or alpine if you want something really nice, and pioneers for the best bang for the buck. They make some nice speakers at lower costs

my radio is 55x4 its PULLING atotal off 220 I know damn well I am not paying all this money for a radio that is not going to thump without an amp its a dang blaupunkt not a $20 radio and yes I am a very few who does have the vol. cranked all the way up
your deck will distort at full volume.. and its gonna pump.. but not like you have subs! any set of speakers will do.. if you want good bass with out subs, get 6X9's for the back

see dx my rears hold 5 1/4 and in my trunk I have two roadmaster 8's without amp and I stuffed 61/2's in the door but getting some Lightning Audio 4'a soon for my doors and my radio @ high vol. dont seem to distort??
so it doesnt distort when you crank it???
like absolute total volume??

dunno but had it cranked earlier at wifes work and the only thing I heard was the front driver speaker rattle I broke the cap off accidentally thats why im gettiong 4" for thre doors! but other than that it sounded good even at high volume its a blaupunkt rpd 5555 if that helps?
I almost guarentee it distorts at high volumes... it's called clipping. Get a 1000hz test tone, and play that... once you get to the upward limits of the volume knob, you'll start to hear weird harmonics come into play that weren't there before. My head unit stays clean up to 43 out of 50 (it's a base level JVC right now, about to upgrade to Alpine 7998). However, when I played music up to the max, it was a lot harder to tell it was distorting.
I suggest you get the biggest speakers your doors can hold. If you want something budget, go for Pioneer, Alpine, Polk, or something like that... Lightning Audio would work, but they're lower level quality.
Also, your radio is putting out around 22 watts RMS per channel... it can only do 55 watts per channel for VERY brief moments... as in, fractions of seconds, and even then, it's very very clipped, which is terrible for your speakers and sounds terrible.
well I was told that Lighning Audio is like a side company of Rockford fosgate they are suppose to be good all the local stereo company's here sell them so they must be anyhow thats the only thing that will fit in my doors is 4's

will $20 even get pio's? mabe the low end stuff. I payed $130 for decent entry level pioneers.
I got these 6x9's. They are a very good bang for the buck.

heh heh yeah. I would love to have those. But im a poor college student. but for the $$ pioneers are pretty good.

WHAT! You want rear speakers for $20?Your better off waiting till you have money. Believe me, you'll appreciate the sound much better.
And everyone else is right. At full volume you will get clipping, which is harmful to speakers, especially cheaper ones.
Clipping: Refers to a type of distortion that occurs when an amplifier is driven into an overload condition. Usually the "clipped" waveform contains an excess of high-frequency energy. The sound becomes hard and edgy. Hard clipping is the most frequent cause of "burned out" tweeters. Even a low-powered amplifier or receiver driven into clipping can damage tweeters which would otherwise last virtually forever.
Get Pioneers or Kenwoods if your looking for less expensive speakers but definetly dont go cheap.
