    new heart for the HB

yesturday a guy came into my work with an 89 integra, he said the car was shiftin bad and when one of the mechanics took it for a drive, the tranny took a shit. well the guy said he didnt want to put any more money in the car so i offerd him 100 bucks for the car and he said alright. now im not for certain what motor is in it cause there is alot of grime on it and i cant see the block number, buts its DOHC, and im thinkin good chance its a b18, but someone help me out on that one.....but since the motor is smoked in my hatchback, im gonna swap in this one, its a good deal to me cause the motors only got 110,000 on it and i can use the front lip of the teg for my accord.......score....when i finnalize the deal ill throw some pics up

*edit* cut....heh heh my post posted right after the real info....oops

you might have a hard time putting that motor in your hatch as its hard to put in just about ANYTHING in our accords. Good luck though! and i must say that was a helluva steal to pick that car up for 100 bucks.

Why spend money doing that? The motor in the 89LXi is better than a stock 86-89 teg motor any day. If it was a 90+ teg, then I could see that. Otherwise it's a step back that your spending money to do.

heh i guess it would have made it easier if he clarified that he wanted to put it into his civic and not his accord. i say go for it if its gonna go in the civic.

he originally wanted to put it in accord since b18 is cool. but it will drop into his civic, so its an upgrade on his nice car as well!

either way $100 for an engine isnt a bad cost! and u can sell off parts too!

Your thinking about a B18, the D16a1 has these specs vs the 89LXi motor.

    www.g1teg.org/specs/

    D16A1
    Hp 118 @ 6500 RPMs
    Tq 103 @ 5500 RPMs

    89LXi
    Hp 120 @5800 RPMs
    Tq 122 @4000RPM's
The accord doesn't just have 19 ft/lbs more torque, it's got allot better power curve as well.

The B18A1 from the 90-91 teg has these specs
    Hp 130 @6000 rpm
    Tq 121 @5000 rpm

The 92-93 B18A1 from the teg has these specs
    Hp 140 @6300 rpm
    Tq 121 @5200 rpm

the 1st gen teg's engines are worthless. you can't swap them into anything. his best bet would be to part is out and sell it, or read the sport compact car magazine where they droped B series motor into 1st gen teg.

obviously im not gonna put that motor in my accord since i just got done rebuilding my a20 in my lxi.....ill clarify tho, the motor in my civic hatchback used about a quart of oil every two weeks, so it was pretty smoked, and since this motor is a D16A1, D series motors and trans should bolt up to eachother.......but well see......

another good thing about that motor if i can make it work is that its a D series motor.....which means the jackson racing supercharger for D series civics will bolt up to the motor, i got clarification from jackson racing sayin it would work......so i might think about goin that rout too
