Red face A20 intake manifold questions I have answered

Ok lately there has been a lot of talk about the A20 2 stage manifold and how it can be modded. Mostly concerning the secondary butterflys and removing that plate they are connected to.
Here is what I have found if you leave the set up stock on my car the butterflys do nothing but stay open so i think my silonoid is broken
Second if you sttach them to the free port on the intake manifold
    where the x is
    o x
    o o
    o o

then they are closed when you are not pressing on thge gas pedal but they are open at all other times.

3rd whe I removed the plate I could not get the top part back on because there was an engine mount in the wayand the idle controll sensor did not fit.

I also noticed when the manifold was apart it had mad crap in it which I thought odd because I use a lot of throttlebody cleaner. But the crap was mostly on the port for cylinder 1 and 2 so i cleaned it up with a tooth brush and cleaned the butterflys off much smoother now.

Was it like hard black crap... and lots of oil?

anyways I had a spare secondary plate that I removed the butterflys and shaft from and all I need to do now is fill in the holes for the shaft with metal putty.

Yea it was oil crap the same stuff I alaways clean from throttlebodys when I give any car a tune up. it wasn't really all that thick but on the butterflys them selves it was more than I expected.

I dont reccomend carb cleaner...all it really does is lossen the crap in the carb and it just flows down into the manifold...it can also cause buildup in the carb.
