    Compressed Hood Conversion

Yeah. I am getting annoyed with constanlty having to push up my hood, and then have the metal rod hold it up. So I'm modding my hood so that I have to compressed shocks on the underhood like newer cars. The mod should be done whenever I get all the right parts. I will post some pictures of it when I am done. Anyone else try this mod before?

No but that sounds hella cool indeed. Good luck with that one. Sounds easy enough tho it's usually the easy things that turn out to be the hardest

I havent tried it myself but I know if you search you could find someone who did. I remember reading the thread but I dont remember who. If you do succeed it would be a great how-to. good luck!

Yeah, my dad is an electrical engineer. So he should be helping with getting the parts. All I need is one other shock, and a few fasteners and bolts. I'll have to drill in a few places and align...but it should't be that bad. I should be able to get it done in a day, if I work all day.

Hmm, I have the new gas struts I was going to use to replace the ones that are just about shot on my hatch lid. I wonder if they would work.

I did it to my coupe with some Audi/Porsche parts but the channels on the hood are not strong enough for the strut i have. It ripped it right out even with a nut on the back of the ball mount. So im gonna have a plate welded on when it goes to the body shop for paint. Its a simple mod but the size strut i have doesnt give me a good mounting place on the hood.

Will do. It should be done in a few weeks. Still need to get a few parts. And yeah, some welding will be required.

I thought about that, getting some gas shocks of something maybe stronger like a cadillac. If you try it let me know if it works.

Yeah, I will. I hope it will be of great convience. I'm sure they will be. My dad will be supplying me with all the parts, since he's an electrical engineer, the supplys will be more than cake to obtain.

I'm totaly lost on what you guys are talking about. A pic would help to see what you are taliking about. I just can't get a picture in my head of what you are doing.

He's gonna install the automatic pistons that will open the hood and keep it up instead of having the bar hold it up. Its just like what the hatchbacks have to raise the hatch and keep it open on its own.

Definitely take pics while you're doing it and write a how-to. I'm sure a lot of people would be interested in doing this.

Did you accomplish this project? I saw someone did this to there prelude on another forum and I want to do it now and I also want to have a pop trunk lid where it will open when I press the button on my alarm. I figured I'd need some shocks in the trunk so does anyone have any ideas for me?

Not yet come to think about it. Geeze, I have totally forgotten about the project. Wow. Now that this thread is up, I want to go and do it right now. Come Christmas break, I will have the hood conversion done!! I get off of school the 19th, so all I have to do is pick up my other gas shock (Yes, I still have yet to find one) and I will be good to go. This will be bad ass if I follow through with it.

Try and do a pop up trunk thing too. My dad has about 30 gas shocks and I can have a few if I want. (for tool boxes for semis and trucks)

I put a couple on my trunk lid...pretty slick. Sometimes they work better than others though :-/ The shocks need to be just a touch higher pressure.
