    Crazy Distributor problems

So I'va had trouble tuning my weber even after the cam install. I gave up and was going to take it to a local weber specalist. That's when I decided to take it to my regular mechanic to do some tests. We checked compression 170-172-170-170. Pretty damn good at 256,000. Then we checked cam timing-TDC. Then we checked ignition timing 18 deg. advance at idle then @ 3000 still 18 deg. advance. Bad distributor and bad vacuume advance. I put on a used JDM distributor (has a much different cap). And epoxied the vacuume advance (just the housing). WOW now I'm at 24 deg advance @ idle and 56 deg advance @ 3000. Now my car is performing. Still hard to do burnouts due to the Excessive rubber (Yokohama AVS ES100 215s) So damn sticky. Put my stock 13s on the front and smoke show everywhere all the time not even trying. That lasted about 100 miles and ripped the vacuume advance off so the new part is on the way. Damn what along battle. By the way did you know that a distributor and Vaccume advance is 600 bucks WTF. Thats my story. I've heard plenty of people getting discouraged but keep working and searching It took me at least 2 months to figure this out. Darkside

I think the one that broke was tech and the "new" JDM one is Hitachi. The new vacuume advance should be in on Thursday so I'll Have it back in time for the weekend. Darkside

Well they come on the JDM A20A3 crate engines that get shipped over. That's what mine came off of the only problem is that the engine leans forward in the crate and breaks the vacuume advance housing. I got a preety good deal $70. The distributor cap is different though. The coil wire is in the middle and the plug wires surround it and they all face out towards the passanger side of the engine. And I mean straigt off the end like an old v8. I'm not sure that the JDM distributor is any better than stock unless of course yours was as f-up as mine was. Darkside
