    Thumbs up auto tranny downshifting

hey im sure you guys noticed as i have about the automatic lxi's downshifting to 3rd by itself when you push harder on the gas right? i just think it's just awesome. whenever i need a boost i give it more gas and it downshifts to 3rd and wweeeeee....a nice turbine-like sound from the engine and im gone. kinda like having boost from a turbo or NOS almost. i guess honda had this instead of vtec which they developed later on on the 5th gen accords and civics. anyways, this is one of the things i like about 3gees. this guy thought i had turbo when i was racing his civic.... to all the 3gee'ers out there... :super:

Its the TV cable... You increase the TV (THROTTLE VALUE) and you raise the shift point of your car.

I dont think i ever owned an automatic that downshifts by itself. so i dunno what you mean by "most" cars. every automatic car i've owned only upshifts and never downshifts when you hit the gas harder. the closest thing i could think of other cars downshifting is the overdrive button being turned off while in final gear. and yes, i know about the tv cable. i constantly mess with it sometimes to let my car upshift later at higher rpm's. i just thought i'd make this thread to see if anyone else thinks it's cool that the auto 3geez do this.

If you have't driven a car that didn't downshift then you need to start driving better cars.

read carefully, i said "on its own". AT FULL ACCELERATION, not decelaration. on an AUTO 3gee, not MANUAL.

lol, this thread is hilarious. ICEMAN, is this 3g ur first car? I'm kinda surprised to a see a thread like this; its common sense, or at least i thought it was. Pretty much all automatics should downshift when u floor it.

yeah i guess you could say that. it's not my first car but it's my 2nd automatic. i guess my first automatic (2.5L v6 probe gt) never needed to downshift when i hit the gas to pick up speed. it had plenty of power and never needed to downshift. here's some pics of it:

    http://hometown.aol.com/maverick707/picsofmycar.html

god i missed that car. i wouldn't mind getting another one in leather and 5 spd. but now i put the money on the 3gee, im gonna finish doing the custom work on this car first.

the 3gee downshifts when i hit the gas harder, not having to floor it. which is good if i need a quick boost. it's just that i notice that downshifting thing more on this car. i guess it's normal for this car. other cars are probably very smooth and you don't notice it. probably since some are computer/hydraulic and 3gees are manual/cable actuated. i think it's just my throttle value cable adjustment. anyways, peace out guys.

yea, I haven't driven abunch of automatics before except for my dads tundra which downshifts almost all the time you press the gas down half way, and a 92 toyota pickup which never seams to down shift when I want it too. This is why I only like to drive manuals Like my 3gee!!!
