Advice on install.

I am planning on getting a system fairly soon. And because I got snowboarding all the time in the winter, I want to keep it so I cal fold down my back seat.

I want to get an install like my buddy had in his A4 before he sold it. The install cost him $600, but I can probly get it done for $400.

So, do u think I should get it done by the pros, or attempt it with some friends ourselves. They have already built a few custom enclosures, and seem to think it will be a piece of cake.

I need your thoughts.

I always suggest doing it yourself if you have the time and energy to do it RIGHT... if you work or go to school all the time, you might not want to do it yourself.

You can do this one yourself fairly easily, and it will save you a butt load of money. Check out the second link in my profile for some tutorials on fiberglassing...

You're going to want to put down some aluminum foil, and tape/foil off the whole area you're going to be doing it in. Get one layer of fiberglass resin/mat down all over it, let it cure, and pop it out. Then get your wooden mounting ring for the sub, and attach it to the piece you popped out with wooden dowels and hot glue. Stretch some fabric over this and soak it with fiberglass resin. When this hardens, you've essentially got your enclosure. Now you just go through and add more layers of fiberglass mat/resin. You're probably going to want 5-7 layers total. When you totally finish that, carpet it, or bondo the whole thing, sand it down, and paint it.

Ya, it was a w6v2, and a jl 500/1 amp. It sounded awesome. I think I will probably be going with 1 or 2 10" mtx 8000 subs, and an mtx 6000d amp, if i run just 1.

And, I am thinking hard about doing it myself, but I dont want any air leaks or for it to get shaken apart by the sub. I have heard systems with air leaks in sealed boxes, and it makes it sound like shit.,!
But we will see. I will check around more for better prices too, and go from there.

Damn kicker, thats sweet. Did you do that? and if so, what car is it in. And how was it done? , my friend and his dad now know how to work with fiberglass, so maybe it can be done.

It's in a 2001 Civic. My shop does custom enclosures as well as auto work. It's not that hard to do actually, just think everything through before you start and get a basic understanding of what exactly you are doing. I say go for it, use those pictures for examples if that's how you're planning on doing it.
