i'd go to sams if i wanted shitty gas. I don't trust that discounted stuff.

I go to Diamond Shamrock every time I fill up. We don't have a shell station here in Loveland, so that's the best alternative.

    This is some stupid shit.

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/gasout.asp

I actually had someone send me the email yesterday wanting me to "help" by boycotting Exxon/Mobil. The only way to really deal with this is to use less. Drive a Honda (big smile) instead of a big SUV, carpool, use mass transit - if you can. Just because we live in a country where we can afford to use more than our share of natural resources (and are encouraged to do so) doesn't mean we have to. "Gasout." Give me an f-ing break!

Re: The Price O' Gas Thread

I just checked the beginning of the thread, people were complaining about having to pay $1.79 for gas. Good times.
Mike, you're going to get nowhere thinking like that, This Is America!
In the '70s when people were complaining about the price of heating, Jimmy Carter suggested that we turn down the heat and dress warmly, America responded by voting him out of office.
Conversely, in Japan the same suggestion was made quite recently, and (I guess because they're smarter than we are) people actually followed the suggestion, and energy use dropped tremendously.

Of course I'm lazy. If I wanted to work on my car I'd have gotten a DSM

    Yeah, I know!

How will we ever keep our status as the world's biggest net importer if we even thought about - GASP - reducing consumption of anything. You are right when you say that is not in the American agenda. Japanese are some of the world's biggest net savers (as in money) as well while Americans are big time debtors. What's wrong with this picture? The average number of hours in a work week in Japan has been shrinking over the years while ours has been increasing. So, we spend more time earning money to pay for more things that we don't need leaving us less time to enjoy those things. Insanity!

It's hitting $1.07 Canadian per litre here in Kelowna, BC, Canada.... so basically it's AT LEAST $4.00 per gallon American.

It's gotten to the point where electric companies can give you tips on how to save electricity and gas companies can tell you how to save gas. They can afford to. No one listens anyway.
My family is a bunch of fuckin hippies... And they still don't turn off the damn lights when they leave the room

Well, next time there is an "occasion" buy them some compact flourescent bulbs. They have gotten to be very cheap and they will cut electricity consumption by 75%.

They are great for lights that are on for hours at a time, plus it is nice to have bulbs that will last for five years plus, especially in locations that are difficult to access.

Yup, that's right, I am an environmentalist. However, I only like stuff that increases both efficiency AND convenience.

So am I. But I'm hardly what you'd call left-wing. I just use my brain.
Take "vegan shoes" They're still made with petroleum, you idiots.
I'm kinda hard core about it, but it saves me a lot of money. I only buy clothes at thrift stores, because there are no resources used at all. Plus the money goes to homeless people or disabled veterans. And on top of that, everything's hella cheap! It's the same reason I think hybrids are stupid. You're still using tons of energy to make the damn things, and those batteries are going to have to be thrown out sometime. Buy an old car, that's how you help the environment. Reducing consumption isn't limited to oil, ya know. Ah, well. There I go again!
Fuck trendy environmentalism, you don't really care, you just want to look good to impress your loser friends.

Shit, I'm not talking about anyone on this site, I just realized you might think I'm talking about you.
No worries. On the subject of hybrids I couldn't agree more. I think they are more of a statement for the people who buy them. If you compare the extra cost of a hybrid vehicle to what you actually save in a year on fuel you realize that it will take you YEARS to recoup your investment. And, you might not even keep the car long enough because many of the hybrids on the market are problematic - auto manufacturers trying to make their own statements by releasing infant technology.

Buying an old car makes sense if it is in good shape and won't kill you on repairs or leave you stranded. The whole economy of the auto industry is shameful. The idea is to get you to go into debt buying something most of us do not need, but as was already stated, this IS America and we have freedom of choice. Practicality and sensibility cannot and should not be legislated. I just get pretty damn sick of hearing people complain about the costs of things, wanting the government to bail them out. Heaven forbid that they actually adopt habits that could really make a difference.
