To best answer your question, its best to say what you are looking for. Do you wanna dump it? Are you looking for good handleing/cornering? Or do you just want to lower it and dont really care about performance?

Like i said, do a search for springs, coilovers and struts and see if you answer your questions that way. If you still have some unanswered questions, come back and post em.

well..some of the most populars.....theres b series swap....b16, b18....you could do a d15 or 16 from mid 90's civics...theres the f22 swap...or the oh so famous h22.

Cheapest route would be to let the air out of you tires that drop it about 3 in.:lol I would not go lower than 1.5 in. are you will have serious tire wear. You can get lowering springs for less than $400. Just about any Tire shop will do it. and of course after you get it done you need to get an alignment.

My springs have been heat shrunk which is the LAST option. If you dont care about ghetto ride and you're cheap, cut your springs. If you dont care about a bumpy and rough ride and you have a little money to spend, get yourself a set of aerospeed coilovers or some other type of coilover. If you're looking for only a small drop, get some sprint springs. They have a really nice ride. If you're looking for a top of the line setup, get yourself some ground control coilovers and some revalved bilstiens.

I had B&G springs with Koni's on all 4 corners. The springs were VERY stiff and produced a very hard ride. But that's what I was looking for, so I was pleased with the outcome. The only warning, however, on these springs is the estimated drop. I chose B&G not only for the spring rate, but the meer 1.6" drop. After installing them, they settled to a little more then a 3" drop. BIG DIFFERENCE. Looked great, but even so much as a pebble in the road, and you're scraping.

IMO, if you're looking for a very cheap drop and care nothing about performance (and safety), then the only alternative to dealing with a stock ride height is to cut the springs and make sure your struts are in good shape. Reason being is even if you are willing to spend "a little", you're just going to toss your money out the window. If you decide to dip into the pockets a little and get real lowering springs, no matter what brand springs you get, STOCK STRUTS CANNOT HANDLE LOWERING SPRINGS. So, with lowering springs on stock struts, you're looking at a significant pre-mature failure of your struts b/c they're undervalved for your springs.

IMO, if you don't have the money for both springs and struts right now, I'd go with the struts first. True, your car will sit at stock ride height, but it'll feel, and perform a whole lot better. Then keep saving and eventually get the lowering springs. When you do that, you'll be VERY pleased with the outcome.

I think this was a very good thread. He's asking more for peoples opinions of their setup, and the pro's and con's of it. Not neccessarily just saying "what do I use to do it?".

Now it really ranges, b/c of the Koni's being discontinued. If you can find some, it'll be from someone's overstock.

I can't really tell you it'll cost you exactly X amount of $$ for the drop.

Basically, Koni's or revalved Billsteins are the only option for a proper drop on our cars regardless of the springs you choose.

Springs are really a matter or prefference. Look at the thread that Jim stickied at the top of the suspension forum for all the spring rates of each spring make.

I know the Koni's will run you about 400 for the full set. No idea on the 'steins.

Spring prices really vary greatly. For that you have to choose what best fits your needs.

Well, if you can find konis (they were disconitinued for our cars) they will run you about $450. Then, for lowering springs, you'll spend about another 150 for about a 1.5 inch drop. Any lower than that and you'll either need to buy a camber kit for the front (which runs about 100 a side i think) or you can buy 2g Prelude control arms and then play with those a bit (read in the how-to or FAQ). Basically, on a budget, 1.5 inch drop is the way to go. If you don't want to shell out for konis, you can buy tokico struts which aren't nearly as good. The rear is just stiff enough but the front still has a bounce, esp at higher speeds and bigger bumps. Not too bad just going around town though. Those will run you about $240. So you'll be in it for about $400 for new parts. I picked up my tokicos used (bought each pair seperately) for $90 and my H&R springs (1.5 inch drop) for $160 shipped from another member on the board. If you search around or check out the stickied thread in this forum, you can decide what you want to do. Beware though, as mark said, of running lowering springs on stock struts. I ran my springs on NEW monroes sensatracs and while the ride was good (nice and floaty) it could get scary hitting a bump in the middle of a turn (which unsettled the whole car and caused a buttload of understeer). I'd save up and get both the struts and springs at the same time, so you only have to do one alignment when you finish. Sorry for the long post.

Any coilover you buy will almost HAVE to have konis because they're so stiff. That means you're spending more money. And again, if you go lower than 1.5 inches you'll have camber issues, which necessitates the need for either new control arms or camber kits. Like I said, the best thing to do is grab a set of H&R or Neuspeed springs (1.5 inch drop), find a set of tokicos, and call it good. Not the best setup, but more budget friendly since it sounds like you're somewhat strapped (like most people on 3geez ).

I am goin with 2.25 in the rear, and 2.5 in the front, I have mine like that now and I love it, goin with monroe's for struts (have them already)

and since I have the prelude arms and the rear camber already dealt with.. no fuss no muss.. but yea, if you are on a budget, like most, then go small drop and inexpencive struts..

I just like low, thats all
