GMB water pump after 65K and new tiny Hawker battery *56K death*

So about a month ago my water pump developed a small leak. I was just going to leave it until I put on my P&P head. But this week it decided to totally give out and leak 1/4 gal of coolant every time I went somewhere. So I just replaced with a crappy $20 parts store pump (didnt have time to order a good pump) and when I pulled out the old pump I was surprised to find that it was a GMB. It was replaced 65Kmi ago when the timing belt was done. So here are some pics of what a GMB water pump looks like after 65Kmi.

Ok, now here are some pics of this cool Hawker battery I just got. I bought it to move the battery to the trunk in preperation for IC piping going where the stock battery is located. These things are 3 X 7 X 5 and only weigh 13lbs. I got two of them for $25 each (smokin deal, they normally go for $70+ each). I got the idea from a bunch of hybrid civic guys running these batteries. The regular sized battery is the old one from my VR4, it is about the same size as the accords.

Does it put out enough juice to use it in a daily driver or is it for racing only?

looks like the same batteries they use on civics. Let us know if it works everyday and can crank good. That looks like the perfect size to move it behind the intake manifold.

whast the CCA rating on that battery?

It looks smaller than battery for my laptop (OLD laptop that is )

Nobody wanted to believe me in another string that you should stick with a Honda water pump. Even the aftermarket pumps that cost more (I bought one for $45 that had a bad bearing at only 18,000 miles - I replaced it before it started leaking more than a trickle) don't seem to last.

On this part for sure - Stick with Honda!

the CCA is right around 300 I believe. There are hybrid civic guys that have been running them for years. They do work just fine. I dont know about winter tho, I will have the battery mounted in the trunk so it might be ok. I will just swap in the stock battery in the winter if the Hawker cant handle it.

About the water pump, you are correct the honda pump will last longer. But the impeller design is so much better on the GMB pump that I will be using another one when i put my P&P head on. There is a parts store here in town that can order them for $26 (just have to wait for it to come in). One thing that I think contributed to this pumps early death is that two years ago the car sat outside for about a year (even through winter). Almost exactly a year after that the pump went. Another thing is that they are so easy to replace I really dont care if the GMB dosent last as long as the Honda pump. I replaced this one in a hour.

yah 300 is a bit low for winter...well were i am anyways. My buick and honda both have 600CCA batteries, and on the -30*C mornings its still a little tough. A block heater would probably help a lot.

is it a gel battery. If it is buddy says it kicks butt and can take a beating.
