    B20B/Z vs B20A Swap

I'm doing some research for a project hatch that has been in my mind for a while.

The more everyone says, the more I don't want a bastard B20A. I want bolt on parts (intake, header, etc) that I just can't seem to get anywhere. Also, I don't like how I have to buy gaskets and such from Japan if I have to replace them.

I'm thinking B20B/Z swap, and I take it I will need the Place Racing mounts.

I'd like to get an idea of how much this would cost in the end, and if it would be more economical to go 88-91 B16 SiR I instead. If you can convince me to go B20A, you will have to show me parts I can buy for it readily available, and that I can get gaskets easily.

I'd like to keep the swap under $1500-2000.

If you are only getting the B20B/Z and no other mods you might make it under your buget. However, for that amount of money you could spend half that on the A20A and smoke the B20B/Z or get the B20A and do a turbo or N2O.

Getting all the PRi shit you need will likely put you over budget. Talk to Juan aka OldSchoolSwap about getting you a good deal on a B-series swap kit but good luck not spending more than $2k.

Who makes a turbo for the B20A? What can I run, like 7psi on stock internals and fuel maps?

No body makes a kit for the B20A but Ludespeed has in the past but is no longer making the kit. You might be able to find a used kit from a prelude owner. This kit was made for the B20A5 so you will have to modify some of it to fit proper. Also the parts can be shipped in from Japan within a week so thats not a problem at all.

I would put my money with the B20a, the b20b/z would cost a lot more. The B20a can drop right in to the accord with a few LITTLE things. There used to be a parts availability problem but a lot of members who are doing the swaps have found out you can use parts from other engines that are the same as the B20 and are available here. With your budget of about 2k you could get the B20a and get a few main parts replaced before the engine goes in for your sake. If your carbed you'll have to do an EFI conversion to really get the best from the B20a but you'd have to convert for the B20b/z anyways. Do a search, theres lots of information.

Thanks guys for all the help. I have been searching and reading some information so I would be ready for this when time rolls around.

I'll be buying an 88-89 Accord LXi Hatch 5-speed, that way the swap would be easy. I would probably keep the engine itself fairly umolested aside from painting the valve cover. I would, however, add bolt ons such as a header and an intake... turbo seems to be too expensive... and unfortunately, no one makes a header.

The idea is in the end I need a beater. I can't consider keeping my del Sol (or even my Element for that matter) in an open parking spot on the University campus without someone messing with it, so I decided if I built an old Accord I could make a sleeper, and no one would look twice at it because it's "just an old accord hatchback". Not to me. I'm going to find one, drop a B20A with the way this is looking, and paint it ITR championship white, throw bronze Rota Grid wheels on it, and be done with it.

You can use the prelude header with slight modification and it will fit.

I may only get 13-18 MPG, but try and follow me in the mud and you'll get stuck.

It depends on the budget. I am into my swap a little more than your 1500 budget but overall I think i will be pleased with it when its all said and done. I got mu ludespeed kit new in box (sorta) for 1600. The kit sells for 2200 and then theres the 1200 for the B20a. Well worth it considering that Ive seen and have the less expensive version. I have considered putting the 1200 one in the wifes car because hers is just a daily driver and the way she drives I dont think Ill have any troubles with the engine. the other one is screaming for a rebuild. If its only got the 35-50K from Japan on it i would be very surprised.

Overall I dont think you would be disiapointed. Do your homework and read. Its amazing how many dumbasses talk hoping someone will listen to them.

The honda B series engines should be able to run around 10 psi, or 100 hp shot with laughing gas on stock internals if done right.
