Fan turns on after car is off.. normal?

Often after turning my car off, a few minutes later the fan will turn on, then awhile later it turns off.

    Is this normal?

It's pretty normal. No, I'll take that back. It's abnormal. When others remind you (about the fan) that your car is still on, tell them it's your turbo cooling down. At least that's what I do.

my lxi does. if you look under the hood, there is a sticker on the frame above the radiator. it tells you that the fan will turn on automatically. they can stay on up to 15 minutes. if you haven't removed the stickers from under the hood, and there isn't one referring to the fan coming on, then it probably doesn't do it.

Nope, only Lxi's have that feature which is strange because when I had an 86 Civic Si hatchback the fan never came on after turning the car off, but it does for the Accord. Hondas do some strange things.

My fan kicks in normally and keeps going after I turn the car off (goes 20-30 seconds and stops). This is in my 89 SE-i. I don't remember it hapening in the old 86 EX-i, and everyone gives me a funny look when the fan keeps going.

So, is it supposed to do this? Or can someone refer me to the thread that explains this? I also have the sticker.

Maybe they added the extra cooling function just cause of the EFI's higher compression, higher hp, or the fact it was more of an up scale model of the Accord unlike the LX DX.

well hot diggity im a balla!!!! it's to cool off the engine and all. probably because of the FIs. it's doing what it is supposed to do, unless it goes longer than 15 min. then you might wanna get it checked.

if u look on the hood fuse box, there is a relay and a fuse for the sub coolin fan. And all efi 3gs have a fan control unit under the passenger side seat (the black box near the shifter side) this module controls when the fan turns on and then turns off after the car is shut off. So yeah, its normal and carbs dont do it.

Does this really accomplish anything? (mine does it every time I turn the engine off, and it does it for the full 15 minutes every time) The way I see it, this only cools the coolant that is in the radiator. Since the engine is not running, the cooled coolant never actually gets pumped to the engine...

but in the process the t-stat is open. So some of the cool coolant ends up going into the engine.
